Absolutely hilarious, a huge book sold that describes many of the patterns made by a knitter's mistakes and what they will look like. Fascinating concept.

For 1, 000's of years before we used sequences of 0's and 1's for programming computers, we used sequences of loops for nålbinding and then Knit and Purl for knitting patterns. (BTW the first "punch cards" were developed for machine weaving looms.) Great to see people appreciating how maths is used in textile art!

Cool stuff! Thanks for making me want to drop my current project in the middle and start playing with this. LoL

When I was a new knitter I made this mistake and continued to see how it would look like. It turned out so nice, that I continued to do this. I had no idea it was an actual thing lol

Yes I agree, ‘mistake knitting’ is sequence knitting. Why oh why doesn’t my mistake knitting come out like that? I guess my mistakes are myriad throughout the project. 😂 Can’t wait for your socks with sequence knitting. Love your ease of chatting like we’re having a cup of tea. Thank you.

I didn’t realize there was a name for it, but a friend from my Knitting Club was doing a knit 2 purl 2 over an odd number of stitches, and I absolutely love the way it looked.

Mistake stitch ribbing is 'sequence knitting' that a lot of us know - but don't realise is sequence knitting.

New knitter, I’m mean VERY new. I like simple, so sequencing sounds like something up my alley. I’m an experienced crocheter, seamstress, embroiderer, but knitting has alluded me up until today. My closest friend was a master knitter and passed away suddenly. After three years her hubby called and asked if I’d like a bin of her favorite yarns. Talk about a huge blessing. Most are hand dyed, hand spun and a lot are sock yarns. I hate crocheted socks so I stood up to my stubborn non knitting self and said, “you’re gonna learn”. I found a YouTuber teaching long tail casting on, and my journey (finally successful) began. I’ve only finished two projects, but I’m definitely hooked. Funny non accurate pun. Enjoyed your video. I think I understand (after hearing and seeing your description). Thanks for sharing. I feel like the spiral version of sequence knitting would drive me crazy (on my actual legs) due to neuropathy, but in a hat or a flat piece the textures would be awesome. I love experimentation after I master a craft, so once I get there with knitting I see myself doing a deep dive into it!

I have been doing a bit of sock knitting this summer and I immediately started thinking about how sequence knitting might work. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
