The rest is just the same: Amadeus best scene
MOZART INSULTS SALIERI BY PLAYING HIS OWN PIECE BETTER THAN HE DID

"This is one of my favorite scenes from Amadeus. It is rare for a film to have two actors be nominated for the same award. Thomas Hulce eventually lost to F. Murray Abraham at the Oscars, but there is no denying that both gave outstanding performances.

It was said that the real Mozart had a very childlike laugh which Hulce does his best imaginative version of. The laugh is so jarring and out of the blue that it catches the Emperor off guard twice.

Mozart is either arrogant or socially unaware because he insults Salieri multiple times. As Mozart plays Salieri's little march and notes "the rest is just the same, isn't it?" you can see how maligned Salieri felt. Then to top it off Mozart declares "that doesn't quite work, now does it?" and then proceeds to take Salieri's tune and add embellishments and improvisation such that Salieri can only look on in jealousy mixed with resentment.

Salieri's jealousy and contempt for Mozart is best summed up with the line "Grazie, Signore..." as he looks up at the crucifix." (Elsa Anna Arendelle)

I saw this movie in high school in my And class, I can never remember the name of it. The only thing that I've remembered from this movie was his laugh because it literally had the entire class uproaring with laughter because of it. Great memory.

Best Film of 1984. One of the best ever produced. Definitely one of my top 3.
Had the privilege of attending the 20th Anniversary premiere showing in LA. Got to sit next to Elizabeth Berridge (Amadeus’ wife) and her mother. She was such a lady.

As a kid, I never understood this scene and never paid it any mind, but as an adult now, I’m laughing my ASS off! 😂😂

Mozart’s completely oblivious (though perhaps arrogant) happy demeanor as he tactlessly insults Salieri in front of the Emperor and some of Vienna’s most important people.. I love it! 😂

The laugh so perfectly accentuates Salieri's belief that God is mocking him through Mozart. Finally watched it this year, great movie!

As a one time music comp major, it's real easy to understand just how savage Mozart's musical insult is.

Saileri knew he’d always be upstaged by Mozart . They were both musical geniuses, but somehow, Mozart always seemed to know how to go above and make Salieri look bad. Just can’t explain it .
