Do You Have to Limit Protein on Keto? #ListenToTheSisson

How Much protein can you eat and still stay in ketosis? It depends on your goals and requirements.

If your doctor has you in ketosis to treat serious epilepsy, or if you're warding off dementia, or anything else that requires or may improve with deep ketosis, aim for a lower protein content (10-15% of calories or whatever amount your doctor recommends). Get those high ketone levels, see how it feels, and see if that’s the protein intake for you.

If you’re losing weight, you'll eat a little more protein to increase satiety, making “eating less” a spontaneous, inadvertent thing that just happens. It will also stave off at least some portion of the muscle loss that occurs during weight loss.

If you’re trying to gain large amounts of muscle, you'll come in closer to 20-25%.

In the keto community, there is sometimes concern that protein will turn into glucose and you'll jump out of ketosis if you have too much. I'll explain how that works in this video, and whether you should be concerned with it.

21 years old just started the primal diet with autoimmune disease up to 10 canker sores in my mouth at a time down to my throat and zit like sores all over the legs/arms, Uveitis in my eyes and leading to my right eye going blind. Diagnosed with Bechets disease 3 years ago 20-60mg of prednisone a day for about the same time with humera this last year. I’m now on 4 months of primal/keto diet and I haven’t taken any steroids in 3 months!!!! Now on to the humera 2 weeks with no “medicine” and feeling the best I’ve have felt! This time last year I didn’t think I could survive without my “medicine”. Thank you!!!

One thing I love about Mark is that he loves being an educator. He also has passion even if he is spouting the same principles over and over to different audiences. He is very articulate and the sincerity comes through

Mark, you are a star. I started my journey, in 2014 and you are a top figure in my top 5 most influential people. I must say that I found my way into Ketosis and low carb through reading a book on biochemistry and then I realised the logic that by limiting carbs, the body will burn the store fat. Then I started researching material on burning fat and fasting and I came across your book and videos. Well done.

On a medical ketogenic diet used to treat diseases like epilepsy, protein is always limited because excessive protein reduces ketosis. That's what separates a medical ketogenic diet from merely a low-carb diet.

a lot of people on keto are overweight and do minimal amount of physical weight l training . so extra protein in not absorbed to the muscle for muscle recovery . but if you lift weights you wont over do it on the protein unless you are eating more than 2 grams of protein per body weight a a day

"Ketosis, by definition, means an excess of ketones in the blood-stream" - I have never heard this before. Would you please expand on this in another video?

Real life example and results here:
Ive been on a modified high protein keto for ~2 weeks now. 28 yo male, wt 175ish, with 3 hours jiujitsu a day. Approx daily macros: 120 g protein, 120 g fats, <20g net carbs. Blood ketones are at 2.7, bsg at 66. Most importantly I feel awesome without hunnger despite the caloric deficit.

I’m eating unlimited Protein however my carbs are almost always under 30 G and I actually try to keep my cals under 3000 most days. I’m down 65 lbs while eating 350- 400 G protein ..some days more, some less. I do not monitor ketones as they are not necessary for fat loss. My efforts to stay over 50% protein has resulted in simultaneous fat loss and strength gain. I lift weights 75-90 min every other day.

Dear Mr, do you have proof of burning protein which were first converted to glucose? Gluconeogenesis is demand driven. Not used and not needed protein is removed with stool and urine.

The main reason I started dieting was to get rid of cellulite, however the keto diet made it unbearable. That's why I tried the *Agoge diet* and it worked great

What I struggle with to understand is on Keto you shouldn't eat often, correct? 3 meals a day? I've read your body can only process 30 grams of protein every two hours give or take. Which is tough to fit in for a 200 lb male. So on Keto how do we manage to get enough protein with this scenario? I'd appreciate any articles or tips!

B2 in meat products require quite big protein consumption. Especially If you are not into kidneys and liver every day.

Too much protein does convert to sugar. It also raises insulin. There is a threshold for everyone

Im new to all this. Ive been doing keto for almost a month but i still do post workout protein shakes and between meals when i get hungry. Is this keeping me from burning fat?

Thomas DeLauer had a video debunking the excess protein turning into glucose. This guy is uninformed

People always talk about getting a six pack, I just wanted a flat belly. But the keto diet was unbearable for me. I tried the *Agoge diet* and so far have amazing results. Highly recommended!

The Agoge diet is a much better option than the keto diet. It is well structured, balanced and peronalized. Keto is just harmful and very tough to follow.
