They didn't want ROD STEWART in The Faces - in the words of Kenney Jones

When Steve Marriott left mod superstars, The Small Faces, the band could've folded... but with the help of The Rolling Stones and fate (Ronnie Wood moving next door to Ronnie Lane) the band evolved into The Faces fronted by Rod Stewart! - And that's despite some members being reticent about letting Rod join the band! Hear Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Kenney Jones tell the story here.

Kenney Jones, not only a phenomenal drummer, but also one of the most genuine, loyal and loveliest men in Rock. A faithful friend to Ronnie and instrumental in securing Small Faces' royalties for the remaining band members, he was on the phone to him almost every day near the end, cracking jokes, cheering him up and generally being the best friend anyone could wish for 💙

The problem with the small faces was their management Who robbed them blind. Sharon Osborne's father .

Ronnie Lane didn't want another Steve Marriott in the band who would walk out on them..and he was right.

Always have loved the early band s they just seem like so much more, all that raw potential and power, without the slicked over smooth.🚀⚡🤟💕💕♥️

Loved Humble Pie and the Faces, but lets face it, neither came close to the Mother band Small Faces. They were the perfect little band IMO. Kenney has said they were almost telepathic in their ability to know how to play together without anyone telling the others what to do. Like a band of brothers with unlimited talents. If only Steve could have held out

I like the Faces, but strange to say, I never got over the Small Faces splitting up! They were one of my favourite bands & I was lucky to see them a couple of times at the Windsor Jazz & Blues festivals of ‘66 / ‘67 & they were terrific… I’m sure the residents of Windsor Castle must have heard Steve Marriott’s incredible vocals - even without the help of the PA! ❤

I always thought that the Faces would have been stronger if Rod Stewart would have folded all that solo material into the band. A lot of those Rod Steward songs sounded like Faces songs with Ron Wood anyway. There were money and contractual issues. But Rod Steward lost something without Faces. His sound was more synthetic. Good management was rare back then.

There was definitely a magic about the SF, which was lost when Marriott left, and none of the component parts ever had the same feel. Interesting that when the SF reformed, they only recorder one track that had the old magic, and that was 'Find It' the only track that featured all four originals.

Rod didn't "run out" on the Faces. Woody fell in love with Keith Richards and that was all she wrote. I do so wish that Rod had forgotten his solo stuff for a few years and contributed more to the Faces but his love of $$$ is legendary.

Prima donna is an excellent description of Stewart.

Rods work with Jeff Beck was excellent.
The two albums they made are rock classics.
The Faces were a totally different beast to The Small Faces, no comparison.

No disrespect to The Faces, I don't dislike their stuff but lets be honest - took Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart to replace one man. RIP Steve Marriott
