Dear Bob, I understand your pain and would like to share my heart and the Lord's
heart with you from Scripture to unlock the doors that have locked you in such
unbearable fear and pain and suffering my dear brother.

First---- I want to assure you that God loves you unconditionally. You shared
Scriptures of God's wrath on those who practice sin willfully and of God eternal
fiery judgment. There is a few things to unpack here.

First---- is that Paul is talking about persons who are not interested in changing
or overcoming their sin and not only are not repentant, but actually have no
remorse and cannot be brought to a point of repentance because they have no
interest in changing. If you were one of the persons Paul is there speaking of,
you would not care that you are still sinning and you would not be seeking help,
feeling bad about your sins or struggling with them and wanting to overcome
them. You simply could not have the problem you are having if you have sinned
in the way Paul is describing there. (So stop trying to convince yourself
otherwise by trying to find loopholes so as to accuse yourself and thereby
feeling hopeless. That type of analyzing comes from fear and fear clouds our
perception and cannot see through the eyes of truth, grace and pure love.
Basically fear is preserved in lies we convince our self of due to our insecurities
which I will touch on further).

Second---It is important to understand clearly that God loves us
unconditionally, and what that means. 1John 4:7-19 explains this quite
nicely, and so does John 3:16 and Romans 5:1-10, 17-21. in 1John 4:8 tells
us that God IS love. What does that mean? It means he does not HAVE love
as something external from himself which he can put on or off.
It means that love is his very essence and true nature. He IS ALWAYS love,
everything he does and IS is part of that pure love that he IS and he cannot
turn it on and off. God is never separated from his love which means his
love is present in all his actions.

Unconditional love is love that does NOT have to be earned. That is what
Grace is. It is undeserved. That means unconditional love is not dependent
on what we do or fail to do. It is unselfish in nature and seeks the good for
everyone. Everything unconditional love does is for the benefit and good
of others. It does not create pain and suffering or leave people in sin but
seeks to heal them and bring them out of sin.

So then why are we still stuck in sinful behavior? Simply because we have
not yet learned by the Spirit of God to love unconditionally (Galatians 5:14, 16;
Romans 13:10; 1John 4:7, 8, 9, 13, 16-19) Anyone we need to forgive means
we do not yet love unconditionally, and that includes our self. Why is it we
have a hard time to love unconditionally or to believe God loves us
unconditionally? It is because the nature of sin is to judge and condemn.

Our sin nature is divided between "good" and "evil" which we seek to resolve
through our own efforts. The problem is we cannot resolve the problem within
the problem itself. We then are trapped in our self judgement and
condemnation of self and others. The sense of guilt generated within that
sinful nature and that endless struggle of "good" verses "evil" trapped in our
sinful nature keeps us bound by fear generated by our sin nature. Paul goes
into great detail on this in Romans 7:14-25. He felt trapped in his sinful nature
also. But then he gives us the REMEDY!!! verse 25 and in Chapter 8. That is
where faith and pure Grace comes in and rescues us by the power of love that
is in Christ Jesus. We must surrender to that love and TRUST that it will keep
us safe. It is IN that God's unconditional that we gradually overcome sin
(1John 4:19; Romans 8:37).

Unconditional love CANNOT be LOST. WE cannot LOOSE God's love. Even
when we sin we do NOT loose God's love, WE merely separate our self from
the awareness of his love unless we repent and trust he has forgiven us in his
love. Jesus said that the person who is forgiven much loves much.
Romans 5:20 says "...but where sin increased, GRACE ABOUNDED ALL
THE MORE." You CANNOT OUT-SIN GRACE. Your sin cannot ever be more
powerful or greater than the power of grace to save and forgive you.

THIRD----understanding our strongholds is important in overcoming them.
2Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us we have a struggle against our sinful nature,
God has given us spiritual weapons to fight this fight within our self. It
says WE are to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. How
do we do this? Obedience of Christ is rooted in his unconditional love for
us. We must receive and abide in that love (John 15:1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12;
1John 4:18, 19).

Addictions to sin are rooted in fear and are trying to cover up for feelings
of inadequacy and feelings of not being loved, and feelings of not being
worthy of love and thus seeking comfort in addictions that give us a
temporary fix from those feeling that we find too painful to look at and to
let rise to the surface of our consciousness and are deeply buried, or that
we are trying to forget because they feel too painful for us. So you need to
address the fears and lies that you believe that are keeping you trapped in
your addictions and trauma.

Sometimes our fear of not being loved, or of losing love, or of not
measuring up in some way and not being approved or loved or "good
enough" gets transferred to our relationship to God who is our
heavenly Father and final judge "able to reject us forever" and punish us
eternally for our sins. That is fear based thinking and not based on the
actual Truth of the goodness of God or the love of God or Grace of God
for our salvation in and by his love in Jesus (Romans 8:39).

The Bible says Satan is the accuser of our "brothers" who accuses
them day and night before God our Father. However we have Jesus who
1John 2:1 says is our lawyer and defends us before God and silences
those accusations against us by his blood and his GIFT of righteousness.
Bob, don't believe the lies of the devil. STOP condemning yourself, that is
your greatest sin in all your struggles, because by condemning yourself
you not only are denying the love of God and Jesus finished work on the
cross on your behalf, but you are empowering the nature of sin to keep
you trapped in sin by condemning yourself. This happens because by
accusing and condemning yourself, YOU are not allowing yourself to
overcome sin by the power of faith and grace and the power of the Holy
Spirit of God's love, which is pure grace. You need to ALLOW God to do
his perfect work in you by accepting his unconditional, and stepping out
of fear (Romans 5:5 Titus 3:4-7; Philippians 1:6, 9-11). Jesus in John 14:27
tells us he GIVES us his peace, but he says WE must not LET our hearts be
troubled or AFRAID in order to receive and experience his peace.
(Romans 5:5. Titus 3:4-7).

You need to soak in God's love and in the comfort of that love. You don't
have to earn his love, or be perfect or free of sin to be loved by him
(Romans 5:1-9; Hebrews 4:15, 16; 10:12-23). We CANNOT EARN his love.
The reason you feel condemned and don't have a testimony is because
you are TRAPPED in the FEAR of sinning and of being rejected by God.
It is that FEAR that is keeping you trapped in sin. God wants you to remove
that fear 1John 4:17. He loves you unconditionally. You are precious to him.
Jesus said in John 17:23, 26 that God loves Jesus disciples as much as he
loves Jesus, and that he will continue to make the Fathers true nature
known to them so that the love which God the Father loves Jesus may be
INSIDE of them and Jesus inside us in that same pure love. it is a love that is
gradually revealed to us through our relationship with our heavenly Father and
Jesus by faith and is revealed to us in his pure grace (Philippians 1:9-11;
1John 4:7-19).

Bob I hope this helps. There is so much more I can share but this is long
enough for now. If you need more help, feel free to comment or
express any concerns or ask me anything more. Please let me know if
any of what said here was helpful.

Love and blessings. I pray healing for you and freedom for you in the
love of God and Christ Jesus. Be well. The Lord died so you can live a
resurrected life in his love. Surrender your fears at the foot of his cross.
He will raise you up and you will know your sins are never remembered
in his unconditional love and Grace.Romans 8:3, 4 tells you that Jesus
sacrifice on the cross TOOK AWAY sin's power to condemn you and to
lock you up in the prison of guilt and shame. For the purpose of giving
us the ability to walk not by the power of our sinful flesh, but to walk by
the power of the Holy Spirit which we receive by faith in HIS finished work
on the cross for the forgiveness of sin and to empower us in his love.
verse 2.

I know the words 'leave it to God' can be misunderstood, but they must stay for the moment. The sense in which a Christian leaves it to God is that he puts all his trust in Christ: trusts that Christ will somehow share with him the perfect human obedience which He carried out from His birth to His crucifixion: that Christ will make the man more like Himself and, in a sense, make good his deficiencies. In Christian language, He will share His 'sonship' with us, will make us, like Himself, 'Sons of God'; in Chapters 23-33 I shall attempt to analyse the meaning of those words a little further. If you like to put it that way, Christ offers something for nothing: He even offers everything for nothing. In a sense, the whole Christian life consists in accepting that very remarkable offer. But the difficulty is to reach the point of recognising that all we have done and can do is nothing. What we should have liked would be for God to count our good points and ignore our bad ones. Again, in a sense, you may say that no temptation is ever overcome until we stop trying to overcome it - throw up the sponge. But then you could not 'stop trying' in the right way and for the right reason until you had tried your very hardest. And, in yet another sense, handing everything over to Christ does not, of course, mean that you stop trying. To trust Him means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice. Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him. But trying in a new way, a less worried way. Not doing these things in order to be saved, but because He has begun to save you already. Not hoping to get to Heaven as a reward for your actions, but inevitably wanting to act in a certain way because a first faint gleam of Heaven is already inside you.

-C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

The guy needs to know that he can be free from sin as the word says and as he sees he should be. As the word says in Romans 6:1-2 shall we continue in sin, God forbid. So we are to be free from sin, and the word tells us how to do it by renewing our minds and walking in the spirit where there is no sin. Otherwise you will not mature and will continue in sin. Hopefully the guy comes to the knowledge of the truth and with patience will be set free

I love you, Michael! I taught for five years at your Fire School here in Davao City, Philippines. May I please make a suggestion? Please don't recommend Amazon. The leaders of that corporation--especially Bezos--hate us. They use their profits to do evil.
There are other online book sources, as well as brick-and-mortar bookstores.

Dr. Brown I was wondering if you could explain the Messianic Jewish view of the Doctrine of Justification. Do most Jewish believers in Yeshua believe that their righteousness was imputed to them by the Father through Yeshua, or is their righteousness and correct standing with God come from something else? Any light you could shed on this would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks.

To me Even the very fact that he feels the way he feels, how how he hates sin and is grievous about it and wants to be righteous is proof that Yeshua has began a good work in him and will carry it out to completion

We are all in that fight. And it is sometimes overwhelming. You said it. The very fact we have the struggle with sin lets us know we are in the fight. We have to realize Christ has give us the power to overcome. That is why he said take heart for I have overcome the world. It is His Spirit in us that can help us overcome any sin. Trust in Him to do the work in you and you will receive breakthrough. Also get a brother that can come along your side to help you. We should NOT feel isolated.

I really wish he could get his hands on the "mortification of sin" by john owen . The "old man" is not an easy enemy to deal with even after being regenerated or born again .

There are many challenges faced by Christians today. What Bob has expressed is probably the most subtle, but yet the greatest of the challenges. Doc, I hope you can touch on this subject a bit more.

I have come thru the same type of ‘spirit’ recently. Had a super close relationship with God and over time, fell to deception/sin….God tapped me on the shoulder and I repented immediately…. But walking BACK into the close relationship I had has not been easy. I did a deliverance session with a team at my church. I had to FORGIVE MYSELF…. and confess self condemnation and break the demonic thoughts that bring that condemnation. Reading Bible should not bring condemnation but conviction. Two completely different spirits. Forgiveness brings deliverance. I had to go and confess it, forgive myself and have others pray with me to cut the self condemnation off. Jesus does not condemn us… who then does….there is therefore NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ…
