Margo Price's music is a Nashville-steeped blend of classic rock and outlaw country. Her work as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer continues to evolve — and her new record, That's How Rumors Get Started, is an adventurous step forward into the aesthetic worlds of Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, and Linda Ronstadt.

We spoke with Price about how different instruments spark musical ideas, her exploration of her influences on the new album (and the story behind its title track), and what inspires her to keep making music.

Definitely agree, even messing around with several instruments might also influence you to write something. Say a set of bongos, you might figure out a cool beat and then transfer that beat to the guitar or whatever instrument you play.
