being an 11 years old kid growing up in a third world country not knowing what is nintendo nor how big super mario actually is, I'm just glad that these devices made it accessible to me and countless other kids and glad that they were able to make my childhood just a little bit better, sure I feel kinda bad after I knew better, but I don't think that knowing this would've stopped my dad from buying it, because even if nintendo consoles were available here they would've cost a kidney and a half.

37:20 The way the real Zapper worked is that the NES blacks out the screen except for shootable targets, which are replaced with white. The Zapper senses if it "sees" black or white on that screen, which gets interpreted as a hit or miss accordingly. If your screen is bright enough and the room dark enough, regular colors can be misinterpreted as white (sometimes you can just aim at a white piece of paper in a light room to hit things). The official Zapper also had a light filter to help narrow down "true" white from background noise, and most knockoffs skip adding that filter, resulting in false positive hits kind of like what you are seeing. The tradeoff being, some knockoff Zappers without the light filter can still loosely work on non-CRT screens just as a happy accident under the right conditions.

Or, the light gun's just a cheap knockoff and just sucks, that's possible, too.

When i saw the line on the screen, I knew this was a brick game. They used to sell these on the train in New York, and they all played the same 7 games in hundreds of ways.

1:03 Not as advanced as you might think. While the Game Boy couldn't do it, the Sega Game Gear could. The Game Gear had a TV tuner, and it could play TV. Doesn't work anymore because analog TV has been discontinued in America, but maybe in other countries!

Everything about this system screams "I've only seen a Game Boy in a magazine ad." They took a peak at what the Game Boy looked like, didn't care to even buy one to examine before making it, and then just tossed it out to market. Half-baked, with a quarter the amount of games it claims to have. I'll be damned if I ever forced another living soul to play this thing with me, they'd probably end all ties with me after that.

I believe the way these knockoff clones are made is just putting together off the shelf components. The "company" just needs to slap them into whatever shell they wish. That's why the quality of these are always terrible. Also the reason the B and A buttons are swapped. "A comes before B, so clearly the order is A to the left, B to the right!".

It's amusing how a system known for being the sole option for kids who didn't own a Game Boy in several emergent countries—including my home, Brazil—was advertised in North America as an option to cut huge costs on buying games for real consoles, even in the 90s.
