Undeterred, unfazed, uninterrupted: French police watch migrants illegally cross Channel | ITV News

British-funded French police have been filmed watching as migrants board small boats to illegally cross the English Channel, an ITV News investigation can reveal.

Our team were near Dunkirk at a well-known launching point for the small boats, when a group of more than 50 migrants were able to cross the beach and get onto a dinghy directly in front of French officers, apparently unimpeded.

This occurred despite a £500m investment from the UK government as part of a three-year agreement with the France, which is supposed to help them stop these crossings.

£500, 000, 000 paid to the French to stop the boats leaving French shores. Did no-one think to also add a clause stating, that any migrant boat that leaves French shores, the boat can be turned back to France, or the migrants on the boat can be returned to France.

I seem to remember Sunak standing on a podium in January very seriously saying from now anyone entering illegally will be 'detained' and will not be granted asylum. How's that working out then? This is outrageous. When the UK boat intercepted the migrants, they should have destroyed their boat and then taken the migrants back to the French beach and unloaded them there. Also, the footage of the French officers who stood by and allowed the migrants to get on the boat, as well as the ones who let the (obvious) smuggler go after he launched the boat, should be presented to the French government with demands that the officers be fired and have it announced the same will happen to all others found to be assisting the migrants in violation of the UK-funded agreement.

Uk Border Force need to turn the boats around and take them back to where they sailed from. This in itself will become a deterrent. But then we need to assist France to close its boarders to stop migrants entering France.
