The writer in this story played emotional checkers while the best friend was trying, in her own less than sane way, to play long con chess. The writer should have had cameras installed and recorded every interaction after he got punched. THEN, after the failed lawsuit, he should have found a lawyer, present video and audio evidence and sued the kids off of the best friend. Chances are her true crazy would have leapt out once she lost everything and therefore had nothing left to lose, but letting people like her off without consequences just allows them to have resources while they hunt for the next victim.

When a relationship ends up being more than 2 people it always ends up in failure. My ex and I had a friend who became the 3rd wheel in our relationship. She played us back and forth like the idiots we were. It wasn't until after we broke up and after all of the drama settled down that we realized that we would have still been together if it wasn't for her messing with our heads. But hindsight is always 20/20.

One mistake OP made from the very beginning was letting Molly take the reins with their marriage. He could have filed for slander and alienation of affection since he knew she was the root cause of the problem but he didn't which in a way caused the wife to spiral more out of control since that so called friend probably kept on whispering ill words throughout the whole thing.

The wife was too vulnerable with her postpartum depression that she clearly was not on her right mind and was easily influenced by that so called friend. Her parents' and OP should have clearly separated and prevented the wife from having any contact with Molly when things spiraled out of control but then again the parents were also manipulated against OP that they let her interfere and file in court in their family's behalf.
