Can we normalize what teachers do outside of school is none of the parents' business as long as it doesn't affect their job inside the classroom

Lol i used to go out drinking with my students’ parents in Tbilisi but that was because it was such a small expat community and we ran into each other a lot outside of school. Some were already friends before i started teaching in the international school because we hung out at the few spots around town expats frequented or they were regulars at the Sunday brunch spot.

Never would I ever go for drinks with a child’s parents. Not unless we were super close friends prior to having the kid in my class. Nope. I like my job

Lol, I busted our school Principle leaving the bottle shop with three cases of wine. He went bright pink when he saw me and I said “John do we need to talk about this? Don’t worry I’m joking, it is Christmas in a week,
I imagine the majority of the wine was for gifts or gratuities.” He was so relieved that I’d made a joke of the situation.

in my grade almost everyone was related to almost every elementary school teacher in some way either parent, aunt, cousins, grandparents. So seeing your kindergarten teacher puke at the halloween party at your 4th grade teachers house, was luckily very normal for me. 😂

Times are different is when I was in school teachers stayed building friendships with parent. We use to go to our teachers homes, spend the night and everything. They became our family

Prohibition was brought down by parents and elementary school teachers who let teenagers do their thing and drive fast to deliver. Don't parent drunk all the time, buy don't do it sober all the time either. Bedtime gets moved up with daylight savings time for reasons.

That's why I always work outside of my area so I have less chance of bumping into pupils and parents

Pool parties in particular might be fraught, if you were expected to be at a student's house in your bathing suit or something

I never partied or drank with parents. But I was raised by teachers and heard all the stories. There’s always one that screams and complains like 50 people and no one wants that headache. I did onetime have a drink and that was when we all celebrated back home after we placed 3rd in nationals. But I knew I wasn’t coming back that fall bc of a health problem. They didn’t know. It was a good, if unintentional, send off. But I only had one drink or I would have cried and told them. Part of me wishes I got that goodbye, but not the drink version. Keep a healthy dostance with parents. If you really like them, wait till ur done teaching their kids.

I can see why teachers would feel conflicted about this especially since every parent reacts differently and someone could be there and lose their mind about it like a fool.

Funny story, most of my parents friends are teachers from Toronto and my mom worked for a company downtown, she invited her boss and best friend to her Christmas party. Long story short a teacher ended up stoned in-front of a parent of a kid she taught by pure chance. They realized later when my moms boss referred to her friend as Mrs blank lol.

Teachers are allowed to be single and have time to go out and enjoy life. Most people think of Teacher as a married family person with children and they have 0 life outside of work and kids.
