Among the very best Civil War storytellers are those who lived it. Witness Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's various tellings of the 20th Maine Infantry at Gettysburg, or Sam Watkins' "Company Aytch." Here's another classic, the history of the 124th New York Infantry, popularly known as the "Orange Blossoms." The author, Charles H. Weygant, was the regiment's stalwart commander. Surviving three battle wounds, he lived to tell the story of his beloved men.

I’m from Orange County, NY, and we still have a tremendous sense of pride for the 124th.

I really love this channel I’ve somehow come across. Thank you for producing it. If Americans simply followed and watched your videos regularly they would have a hundred times deeper understanding of this seminal event in American – indeed world – history!

I will read his book thanks to you. I’m so tired of ‘The Lost Cause’ claptrap which ignores the issue of slavery and purports to cloak the Confederacy with only the mantle of state’s rights and honor and duty.
