Colorado Senate debate: Gun rights and gun control

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet faces a challenge from Republican challenger and business owner Joe O'Dea for one of Colorado's two U.S. Senate seats.

Bennet, the senior U.S. senator from Colorado, has held the seat since 2009. Prior to his appointment, Bennet was the superintendent of Denver Public Schools. He also served as chief of staff to Sen. John Hickenlooper when the latter was Denver mayor.

In his reelection run in 2016, Bennet received more votes than any other Democrat in a statewide race in Colorado history.

O'Dea is a self-proclaimed "political outsider" and CEO of a Colorado construction company that he founded 30 years ago. He previously worked as a union carpenter.

O'Dea was in the news recently for firing back against criticism from former President Trump, who called him a Republican in name only (RINO) and said MAGA voters would not vote for him. This came after O'Dea said he would "actively campaign against" Trump in 2024.

It doesn't matter what Latino polls or any polls show. Our 2nd amendment is a right and is not up for majority vote.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. I blows my mind how people think it's a joke. Do your research and look up what happened to the jews and now ukraine, with hitler he did the same thing he didn't just come into power and take guns he waited for problems to happen setup or random acts of violence the started taking guns slowly so no one could defend themselves, with ukraine they did the same thing except now russia invading them made them realize they need guns and started handing out ak47s to everyone on top of our lovely government sending them billions in funding and equipment. The so call assault weapons is the whole point on the 2nd amendment to be able to defend yourself against enemies foreign and domestic, that also means we are able to have whatever weapons the government has. If you don't like the 2nd amendment go somewhere they don't have one and see how free you really are.

Assault Weapon ban man is stupid as the definition is worthless. Wanting to ban such firearms based on a pistol grip, collapsible stock etc is worthless.

Just because the “administration “ says something dosent prove its true. Show me the order to the IRS saying that they wont audit someone making under 400k then we can talk

Simply put, we live in a capitalist country.

Under the current iteration of capitalism, there needs to be exploitation of workers in order to generate profits for the owner class. This exploitation needs to be backed by the threat of violence, which remains implicit unless explicit violence is determined necessary by the owner class.
The constant need for increased profits demands increased exploitation, which demands an increased threat of violence or, in some cases, actual violence.

In a world where resources are systematically withheld from the masses, violence looms ever more prominently as an answer—in fact, as the only answer. Representatives of the owner class understand the need to foster the shocks of violence as engines of economic growth, and every dollar the NRA donates reminds us of that.

Plus, guns look cool.
