Thanks for sharing that type of crazy stuff, you inspire me and I imagine others people to study and do dangerous shit in a smart way !

A few things to improve on:
1. You really don’t need dual cells for this, you can just drive the chlorine off in a well ventilated area and not use reactive metals as electrodes as they may produce unwanted side reactions.

2. Using inert electrodes, platinum electrodes would’ve been the best here because there is a chance graphite electrodes might react with the hydroxide to form carbonate.

3. Heating it up until it’s completely dry in a metal pot is a terrible idea. Hot sodium hydroxide solution is one of the few things that eats through glass, It’ll probably eat through metal faster. Plus, sodium hydroxide as a solid already passively turns into sodium carbonate by reacting with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, heating it only catalyzes the process. Use a vacuum or something to dry it, just don’t heat it unnecessarily.

I love how getting a simple compound can make a chemical weapon and hydrogen at the same time. I just want cheap sodium hydroxide for making soap, but I might end up with a fun balloon if I use an old brewing bucket my dad made. Just gotta love chemistry.

"I hot glued this together at 2am while listening to Limp Bizkit" thats my kind of chemist lol

Bro doesn't NaOH react with CO2 in the air to form Na2CO3?
Also how are you sure that the final liquid you had was a sodium hydroxide solution and not sodium carbonate solution. Was the water heating up when added to the crystals? Can the resulting solution dissolve aluminum?

Hi,
What do you think about using membrane from reverse osmosis? It is a polymer.
Can you please suggest more effective membrane

What if accidentally put positive in the negative cup after has been going a bit just concern that could happen

Na+ (ion) don´t react. Na0 (metal) does. By electricity, [Cl-] goes Cl2, and [Na+] goes Na0, Na0 + H2O => NaOH + H2; Also some hidrolysis H2O => H+ + HO-

I am done with the experiment, and I conclude that there is sodium hydroxide I checked the Ph, and I got around 13.5 also when I had added the iron chloride to the sodium hydroxide solution, I got a substance precipitating out which should be iron hydroxide. To repeat this experiment, I used 90 grams of salt with 600 ml of water I had then split the solution into two 250ml portions and I was left with 100 ml of plain salt water to compare it with my product then for 5 hours I had run the electrolysis at 12 volts. At the end I added the sodium hydroxide solution to a solution of iron chloride which had precipitated out a substance presumably iron hydroxide.

I would suggest You doing some research for the topic You are about to teach to people, or don't explain it at all if You are not familiar with the topic. Good luck and stay safe!
