I learned that knotting two socks on the string is a good protection against dry shots when experimenting 🙂

Another great video from far and away the most useful web resource, to me anyway. I have some 28 lb Uuka limbs I use with an old Horizon riser not just for checking form and exercising but for shooting instinctive in the garden and reminding myself that archery can be really SIMPLE and FUN. I'm convinced it helps hugely shooting olympic recurve with form and mental game too.

Very glad to see having a lighter training bow was a feature in this. I've recently been considering getting some much lighter limbs for myself purely for form and consistency training, so it's reassuring to hear that's a valid method

I have a 20 pound Hungarian horsebow that I use for warm ups and form but also for fun. That last part also helps a lot I've found

I found a resistance band at home, used it in same manor as this video shows. kind of in reverse, held draw arm back, extended bow holding arm back and fourth. seemed to help build up my arm strength for me(bad shoulder). bow shakes less now. installed plunger as well, now the arrows hit 1 out of 6 shots. your videos are helping my recurve skills. ty.

Thanks I will be a member next payday, i really value you're knowledge and how you explain thing's. I'm new...ish to archery, also went to gym for years so know muscle groups which really helped whole learning what shoulder muscles too ingage, shoulder deltoid muscle. I also have a lot of the rubber pull ropes because of lockdown. My course doesn't start until August so I'm getting as much knowledge as i can just so I've got abit of knowledge etc. So i use a 10lb band to practise form, and from a bigginer standpoint they really do help. Best bit of advice I've got. But i do have a question that i hope you will answer since I'm in UK but massively enjoy and learning alot from you, but obviously can't get to pay you for one on one lessons because i would. Any way my question, I've noticed in a couple of vids on the riser you sometimes have the arrow on the outside of the riser, this one you're using it on the left side. Is this massively important what side you have the arrow on the the riser because I'm assuming that would adjust anchor position?

I did a mindfulness course a few years ago, helped with alot of thing's, mainly for me was enxiaty, wich i unfortunately take medication for, but thats another and unrelated topic. But yes i would strongly agree youre mind has to be in the right moment, youve expressed a couple of time's the excitement an archer has to seing where the arrow will go, this imo, would come into being mindful about this, ofcours its a natural feeling because we're human and it is exciting to see youre arrow fly. Its why i made my first mistake in my archery journey, i went to Amazon (not the best place to buy a bow imo) and saw a cheap recurve bow, and it stated 40lb great for bigginers. Thats very wrong for them to state that, as a 40lb bow is not ideal for a bigginer, you want a 15 to 20lb bow, also the bow i got you cant change the limbs, because where they sit on the riser is a closed in untit, I.e if the limbs was abit wider they wouldn't fit into the slot. So even that im mindful about the next bow ill get, which at first because of funds will just be a good riser, then ill get the limbs etc etc. My goal is to complete, yes its a great hobbie, but all my hobbies Guitar, and gaming i want to be the best i can be, and again mindfulness does come into that to, especially playing guitar, you need to be mindful on struming i e a constant hand movement. So yes its important even in day to day life. Ps sorry for long text, i like discussion, debating so tend to write a book lol.

The Junxing F155 and F158 might be good candidates for such light draw-weight bows, very inexpensive.

Cost effective solution is to have lighter/cheaper limbs to go with your "real" bow. Just take sight, stabs, etc. off to make it physically lighter as well. It also gives you familiar grip and feel

I wish people made more latex free bands to use. I use therabands myself but the latex allergy makes it hard to find as many options. I've been liking the black and silver ones for warm up

Can you do a schlieren videography of recurve vanes? It'll be interesting to observe the drag of spinwings vs AAE vanes and corresponding offsets.

Rubber training bands are magic to help correct bad habits, focus on proper positioning, back muscles and correct our release. At least for me.

Hey Jake, I think that the stretch band you linked to on Amazon is different than the one you used in your video. Any chance you can link to the one you use in the video or explain how you put it together?

This method of using a light bow to check form; could I do it with a compound bow instead? Clearly the draw is different, but maybe I could use it to practice my anchor position. (I'm just thinking of how to reduce the amount of money I spend on bows)
