I just want to clarify that NOPE's release strategy is completely nuts. The movie hasn't opened in almost any big European market, with the movie only being released in mid to late August. It's insane trying to avoid spoilers and it doesn't make for a very flashy headline when the opening numbers are dissapointing when most people can't even see the movie until weeks from now.

I respect any filmmaker trying to make anything original nowadays. I love Jordan Peele’s movies. Original science fiction and alien stories are tough to sell. It’s not for everyone.

Shyamalan started losing people with The Village, not with Signs which was one of the biggest box office success back in 2002.

I think you're 100% right on about 'Us' weakening 'Nope' OW.

And even with weak competition, Thor is going to fight for it's life to get to $700M. I've seen people say that the lack of big movies will help it match Ragnarok...but I don't think it's gonna get there. With Love & Thunder, it's less about competition and more about the word of mouth being mixed. I think the audience for it is just tapped out.

Top Gun is still almost selling out IMAX screens in Tokyo, I say almost because the entire central section and a bit of the wings are always gone, so that's basically all the good seats. Unreal.

The reason why Top Gun is doing so well is that we go to the movies to be entertained. As much as I respect everyone’s rights and even advocate for them, I don’t need a movie to attempt to educate or lecture me about societal ills. I don’t care if the actors are white, black or green as long as the movie is entertaining.

It’s so unfortunate that NOPE didn’t do so great cause it was such a fascinating movie! 💜💜

C’mon Grace. Night didn’t lose audiences with Signs for crying out loud. It made much more than Unbreakable and was a bonafied hit. It was The Village that let down some fans, and we all know how that lead into Lady in the Water.

I supposedly saw 'Nope' yesterday, it was just my wife and I in the theater. My wife said I fell asleep 12 minutes into it. Best nap I've had in a while, 10/10. Would recommend.

I could definitely see an Oscar nomination for best Cinematography- it was stunning. They actually filmed the night scenes during the day!

That's nuts how Top Gun is doing so well. It's fun watching it just keep going like an Energizer bunny. The last movie I can recall that stayed in theaters for a good while and was going strong after the initial release was No Way Home. How ironic, both have a nostalgic element to them. I look forward to see where the movie finally lands once it leaves theaters.

I think the marketing campaign for Nope was too "artsy fartsy" and instead should have gone for a much more mainstream campaign since the movie its self is far more mainstream stylistically and not so much "arthouse" in comparison to Us and Get Out. I would have gone for a more Jaws/Starnger Thingsy tone in the trailers, poster art, and overall communication strategy.

Still can't believe this Thor Love and Thunder fiasco. Marvel really bit the bullet and decided to make a fourth film for a solo character, only for it to massively disappoint and do worse than the third. After the smash hit of Ragnarok, and Waititi's subsequent Oscar, I thought another Thor was a guaranteed hit, billion dollar, 90% RT score smash. Now here we are.

Brad Pitts character being treated like a hero after it’s obvious to everyone the character killed his wife. Is meant to be a mirror of Robert Wagners treatment by Hollywood after he murdered his wife Natalie wood. Hollywood kept giving him roles afterward and his career remained successful. So positive reaction to pitts character despite him being a murderer was Tarantino’s intent.

It does look like the public are losing interest in Peele's brand of horror, Tarantino and Nolan at least play in different genres but Peele has cemented himself a little too deep, he needs to do something different for his fourth film, though he's said he has no interest in doing an adaptation, maybe just a different genre, bring his originality to a new kind of storytelling.

Other than Top Gun: Mavrick, I've ignored Hollyweird's offerings lately. The last film I saw was One Piece: Gold and before that The Deer King.

Finally seen Top Gun this weekend and absolutely LOVED IT. Best film I’ve seen in a very long time and I’ve not even seen the first film!

I'm not a Tom Cruise fanatic but have seen the Top Gun Maverick 6 times now and the theaters are loving it so much that after a new release makes this week into the imax screen they're putting Top Gun back into the imax for one show per day. Top Gun Maverick was made for an imax screen because it's really an experience to see that movie. And if you truly enjoy it or a fanatic as I am go see it on the Dolby atmos screens that shake the seat and that will really give you a ride of your life. The flight sequences with the 2/5 Gen. Fighters and miles teller watching one of the planes avoid a missile doing this air breaking spinning pizza Box move to go behind them and him saying what the F was that... It's such a classic line and the scene is just so beautiful.

I was introduced to Daniel Kaluuya in his episode of Black Mirror, Fifteen Million Merits. He has a very strong and nuanced performance. I am so surprised that he isn’t a bigger star, what an incredible actor.

Quentin Tarantino once said, even though you should find the best projection available for any film, a good film should hold up "watching it on VHS through an aquarium." I tend to agree. PS I LOVED NOPE.
