Pearls are made from calcium carbonate and some other organic compounds, and if is added vinegar, the acetic acid will react with the calcium carbonate, and that's why you should not put petals in vinegar :)

That also means if a lot of y’all like to clean jewelry at home with vinegar based cleaners, you could very well be damaging your pearls and other precious stones/metals with the harsh vinegar!
