My Father Albert Cisper worked in the 550th Missle Squadron at Schilling Air Force Base, in 1960's. My Sister, Tammy and I were born At Schilling Air Force Base Hospital, in 1961, and 1963. Dad had many stories of the Cuban Missle Crisis, that were historically known as the closest the World came to using Nuclear Weapons. Dad enjoyed all the mysterious engineering technologies of the Missle Silos. He Was An Excellent Atlas Missle Squadron Airman. I'm Very Proud of Dad's Service To Our Countries Freedom's.

How much do or did those families pay for a spot in the residence? Pets?

The steel wall of the silo is there for a few reasons; heat and pressure from the rocket engine in the bombs so the silos has to withstand the payload taking off into the sky without breaking or melting too much. US Army had good reasons to overbuilding the silos and command posts, and it's still done today, as you would obviously feel safer being in what's basically a fort so you don't have to worry about whatever is gonna happen to you or anyone else during the launches, those missiles are quite powerful.

With any luck these structures have been removed from our opponents targeting systems.

And they're perfect places for drowning when a megatsunami hits ⚓

How would its air filtration system fare against say a foot or two of volcanic ash from the Yellowstone super volcano ?

Moreover, they are ideal locations for drowning in the event of a megatsunami.

..."withstand a 10 kiloton nuclear explosion..." 😂
No. You mean a 10 MEGATON nuclear explosion. No ICBM carries a tiny 10 kiloton nuclear warhead, they're always rated at hundreds of kilotons or megatons.

It's not as nearly as impressive as a Titan 2 Silo. I was a crew chief on Titan 2 missiles around Tucson, AZ.
