I said this exact thing when I was learning salsa. I had a partner I used to call my "lined paper", like when you're learning handwriting. I knew immediately if my lead was wrong, because she only did what I led. Now that I'm intermediate/advanced, I love being a solid rhythmic/technical foundation for newbs.

As an intermediate level lead I need to get over my discomfort and insecurity of the snobs in our community. There are a lot to navigate. This is why I sometimes avoid going up.
