Cab Calloway's Hi-De-Ho (1934)

preview_player
Показать описание
Cab plays a ladies’ man who dates the wife of a train porter who is frequently absent from home. In addition to this tongue-in-cheek plot, Cab Calloway and His Orchestra perform “Harlem Camp Meeting,” and Calloway has two vocals, “Zaz-zuh-zaz” and “The Lady with the Fan.”

Presented for historical reference.

Fab Cab was only 26 years old here and already leader of the hottest band doing films. He was a rockstar before that term was invented.

4:36. Welp now I know where James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Prince got their moves from. That whole sequence is smooth and wild.

Cab Callaway is the coolest dude ever! When I lived in New Orleans I saw him perform in 1980, and oh man, he still had it! But seeing him here in his prime is such a delight... When he sings it just gladdens my heart and lifts my spirits in these troublesome times ...

Both of his parents were college professors and he was a college graduate. His parents were not keen on him going into music but it called him and he answered.

I’m 70 and I waited all my life to enjoy such music and magic. My parents were both born well before 1920 and I remember this on 78 rpm records long gone.

That's a class and style that doesn't exist anymore, not even when replicated.
