If they are dollar cost averaging long term they may be relatively OK, otherwise the forums are awash with stories of people who put their or their parents's money lump sump style into the basic lazy portfolios 1-2 years ago and they check once a year or so and see them down 10, 20, 30% or more % depending on the portfolio. It sounds like good advice, but in reality even lazy people look at their portfolio once a year or so. And then they are no different or sometimes worse than the average non-lazy investor.
