I'd love it if you could talk about the perks of working in animation!
I feel like people tend to focus on the negative sides a bit much and it can be kind of depressing

Animation is in a really weird spot, I’d say at the studio I work at, if we have board artists that have animation experience we may have them switch onto animation shots here and there, and we tend to keep a longer employ on board artists and try to find space on a new project once a project is done, so if you’re interested in animation, also buffing up on your boarding skills can really help with job stability but still animation is in a weird spot

personally i always have side job or project i can fall back on. thats the best advice. being self employed and doing commissions or having a part time is good way to have a financial cushion when you're between jobs. and for those who want to have a permanent position in a studio just know it takes a lot building your portfolio and rep before a studio considers you for perma hire. but thats why you take on side jobs and build that resume. animation like all art base jobs your resume/portfolio will take you far so always build on it. you cant be stagnant. thats just from what my friends in the industry have told me. im personally working to eventually finish my degree in animation and this has been a big thing ive been thinking abt as of late.

I graduated with my animation degree a year ago and have been working contract since but have had multiple scares of there being no work to follow, what do you do to ensure a stable income in those months between contracts???

I now feel like you need a level head when looking for a job. You’ll be exhausted otherwise.

I work in theatre and its very similar. Luckily I do casual work for a particular theatre, so I kinda have a safety net, but there's also no guarantee they will give me work.

But it also means I accept projects I personally don't like.

Job stability is a human right…. But alas it’s normalized to not have it.

I know this is kind of crazy but maybe you can try babysitting the families need babysitters so you can start your own business and make money I did when I was a kid and I make $10, 000 a year
