The OODA Loop guide, short for "Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act," is a decision-making model developed by Colonel John Boyd, a renowned military strategist, and fighter pilot. Initially created for aerial combat scenarios, the OODA Loop has since transcended its origins to become an indispensable tool for various fields, including law enforcement.

Origins of the OODA Loop:

Colonel Boyd's concept of the OODA Loop emerged during the Korean War, where he noticed that the most successful fighter pilots displayed a distinct ability to cycle through the decision-making process faster than their adversaries. This agility allowed them to outmaneuver and defeat opponents, despite facing technological disadvantages. Boyd's groundbreaking work on the OODA Loop revolutionized military tactics and found applications in other domains, such as business, sports, and law enforcement.

The principles of the OODA Loop are incredibly relevant to police officers operating in dynamic and high-stress environments. This is why psychology is an important aspect of police training and important for every street cop.

OODA Loop is a valuable tool for police officers, empowering them with the ability to make quick and informed decisions in high-pressure situations. By understanding and applying the OODA Loop process, law enforcement professionals can elevate their tactical performance and better protect the communities they serve.

Sorry, but your position concerning the threat is not what Boyd meant by "Orient". "You might want to check out a book called "Beyond OODA" by Varg Freeborn, he wrote an entire book just on that one step in the loop, and not many pages are devoted to tactical positioning...
