Kirei board is made of recycled straw from the Sorghum plant. It is made from the stalk of the Sorgum plant. Sorghum is much like wheat, so only the top part of the plant is used. The base and root is typically burned, or landfilled. Kirei board takes this refuse and recycles it into a nontoxic manufacturing material. Kirei board can help with LEED points, and is also a CARB neutral resource in California. It uses a non-formaldahyde binder, making it an indoor air quality point qualifier. In addition to Kirei board, Kirei manufactures bamboo board, including dark stained bamboo board, which is highly unusual. Wheat board is another new MDF product, using recycled wheat plant. They also have begun manufacturing coconut shell tiles using recycled coconuts.
