Firefly series review

Our look at fantasy and science fiction TV series from the late '90s and early 2000s (mostly those which ended far too soon) continues with the cult classic, turned scifi's most loved example of a show cancelled too soon, 'Firefly' and its movie continuation 'Serenity'.
Amanda was a true Browncoat during the show's run, and is a true Whedon fanatic. I mostly saw and fell in love with the show once it hit DVD.

I actually have an unused Serenity prop from the show. When the series was cancelled the unused models were painted and given out to people that were connected to the show. My uncle’s friend is a producer who managed to get his hands on one and sent it to him knowing that he and my grandfather were huge fans. They sadly passed and so I inherited the piece that now sits proudly displayed on top of my bookcase.

It actually has a piece that keeps coming off (apparently my uncle or grandfather knocked it off of their table at one point?). I’ve considered glueing it but left it until now because it just seems too appropriate to have a Serenity that keeps “breaking down” lol.

The man himself and his recent controversies aside, I’ve always lived Joss Whedon’s works!

I grew up on Buffy when I was probably way too young to be watching it. The first episode I ever saw was “The Prophecy Girl” which aired when I was about 4. There’s not much I remember from that time but no way was I ever gonna forget the face of “The Master”! This started me on a long journey of fandom. Not to mention my uncle and grandparents where huge fans of the series and it’s spin-off Angel so we spent a lot of time bonding over that.

I loved Firefly as well, but one thing that’s always bothered me is that Dollhouse never got the love it deserved. Technically it did get an ending but it was super rushed because they knew they weren’t getting a third season. I’ve watched the series twice and it was still awesome the second time! That show deserved so much better…

My parents watched Firefly when it was originally on, but at the time I was in high school and nerd culture was very frowned upon at my school (it was a big sports school though). So, being the only person in the entire school who was physically disabled and was autistic, I did my best to distance myself from any kind of nerdy thing, even the ones I loved like Star Trek in the name of fitting in (I was dumb as a teenager). However, we rented the movie on DVD sometime in 2006, either right before or right after I graduated from high school (I was held back when I was a kid, so I graduated later than most people our ages did), and I really enjoyed it. Not long after, I think either for Father's Day or for his birthday, I bought the series on DVD for my dad and spent a week watching through the entire series because I took a year off between high school and college, so I had time. I watched a disc a day. I love the show, but it's not something I go back to regularly, even though we still have that DVD box set (the one you guys have) of the series. Also, that Sci-Fi Chronicles book that's on the shelf behind you guys, is really cool. I have my own copy of it. It's a great reference for Sci-Fi.

I agree that they couldn't bring the show, or even really a movie, back, but, what if they made a videogame? A modern game set during the "Second Unification War" taking place after the events of the movie. And they got the original cast together to lend their voices. I think that that would be awesome.

I knew the people who were behind tge Variety ad. They came out of the Buffy/Angel posting boards.

Serenity still passes me off fir completely rewriting River's escape and, well, Wash.

As others have said, Adam isn't one of the brothers.

The show was 2003. I missed a lot when on TV. Though I had a video of the original pilot with Joss' narration in a fake English accent. I loaned it to one of the people behind tge ad and never got it back.

I knew a bunch of the crew as they came out of the Buffy/Angel crews. I thought it was great that Kelly Wheeler and Lisa Lassek got so much attention on the DVD.

Adam Baldwin isn't one of the Baldwin brothers. No relation at all. But I agree he is better than any of them.
