Why is Utah Inflating Water Use?

The Division of Water Resources is inflating water data to sow false fears and misinform the public into believing we need billions in new government spending on massive water projects. The agency uses two sets of water use figures which contradict each other. This is another reason why an Audit is needed of this agency by the Legislative Auditor General.

When they are trying to raise tax money for expensive water projects like the Lake Powell Pipeline, the Division claims every Utahn uses 295 gallons of water each day of the year. But when they are criticized for how high this usage is compared to most other Western residents, the Division suddenly claims we only use 167 gallons of water each day.

This large difference has a tremendous impact on future water demand, as can be seen in their water use estimate.
