People keep nitpicking the sigma, but its literally $1000 cheaper than the sony, thats another lens you could buy with that savings, or money for a trip somewhere or just spending on anything you want

I have 2 Sigma lenses the 150-600 Sport and the 28-45 f1.8 Art and love them both, this lense could fill the gap between to 2 nicely

I’ve been waiting for this review because I’m having trouble making decision which one even though the huge price difference

Hello, as someone still not commited to the mirrorless with not unlimited budget, I wonder, how would Sigma 70-200 DG DN compare to: 1) older Sigma 70-200 DG OS HMS? Plenty of those on used market for reasonable price. And how would it compare to Sony 70-200 GM? (first edition), again a lot of them on used market and also could be found new in few shops at simmilar prices as new Sigma?

If U guys want the wildlife with this lens, forget it. Get the Tamron 70-300 4, 5 6, 3, with Apsc like A6700 is good for wildlife,
this lens I think it’s for Mid range potrait maybe. And sport with short distance 😅

For me there's too many compromises with the build (as mentioned here) and fps to justify buying this over the GM1 or GM2.

I got this lens a month ago, it is sharp and all, but at the max zoom of 200mm image gets a bit soft, but it's not too bad.
As for AF performance, it's solid, but not as solid as other sigmas I have (maybe it's just my unit)...

Thanks for the review. Did you ever manage to test it out on an APS-C body to see how it performs?

I brought canon version in 5 yrs back in lower price than Sony. I have tried with mc11 n it works flawlessly on both photos and videos for wedding & events . Only one thing I don't like - weight. It's really huge n very heavy .

The lens hood is not supposed to be used backwards, so that's not a design flaw that it blocks the zoom ring. As you mentioned, you put it on backwards for storage. What does appear to be a design flaw is how it partially blocks the zoom ring when it is on the right way.

Nice video, Lenses for APS-C camera. Sigma 10-18mm f2.8; Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. we just miss the Sigma 50-200mm for APS-C camera :)

For me weight matters, so I took the Tamron 70-180 G2. If I would do fast Sports, I would take the Sony G2.

A phone camera still can't compete with a DSLR system. It's close, but not quite there.

The dimensions of this Sigma really scare me) This lens is as much as 500 grams heavier than the Tamron 70-180 of the second version. That's a huge difference in weight. Although the image quality on Tamron is not much inferior, in the end your kit is much lighter.

Three videos about one lens? OK, I’ll give you this one, Curtis. Clever animated text. My guess is that Sigma designers believe few people will want to remove the foot — at least not often. (Couldn’t resist the “screw loose” gag, eh?😊) How often do you remove the foot, in practice? Cheers!

Sony a6400 and sigma 70-200 2.8 good for motorsports?

Great review. But personally, both the zoom ring placement and the hood overlap are deal breakers for me. It may seem petty but I’m horribly OCD on those things. Which is a shame - I was really considering picking one of these up because I’m stupefied by the sharpness of my sigma art lenses.

I will say that I almost seriously considered ignoring my ocd on the zoom ring and hood issue due to that ARCA compatible mount on the tripod foot. But then the frustrating part is the tripod mount is only removable using actual tools.

The one other issue I have is the fact that I can’t use a teleconverter with non-Sony lenses. I’ve heard people argue the sharpness loss - but in my testing and observation there’s absolutely minimal sharpness loss with the TC20 and the 70-200 GM Ii. So for a few hundred bucks extra (the TC2) the GM II now doubles as a 70-200 f2.8 and a 140-400 f5.6. That’s kinda hard to beat…
