This is the parade on Moscow's Red Square devoted to the 57th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, 7 November 1974. This parade is notable for being the last to feature heavy nuclear missiles on parade, as well as tanks and tracked armor. There would also be no demonstration of workers this year due to the rainy weather. Taking the salute is Minister of Defense, Marshal of the Soviet Union Andrei Grechko. Commanding the parade is commander of the Moscow Military District, Colonel General Vladimir Govorov. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison conducted by Major General Nikolai Nazarov.

I liked the old Russian pull on jack boots they wore in the '70s more than today's lace up boots.

Now seriouslly, I doubt that ever was or ever will be military parades as spectaculars as the Soviet ones from 1970's.

I just realized, the three men on the tribune are all ethnic Ukrainians born in what would've have been modern day Ukraine. The man giving the speech is Andrei Grechko
, Marshall of the Soviet Union. The man standing to his right is Nikolai Podgorny
, President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he is also an Ethnic Ukrainian and was born in the region of modern day Ukraine. And most importantly, Leonid Brezhnev, the second longest leader of the Soviet Union. He is also an ethnic Ukrainian, so I'm pretty anyone who thinks Ukrainians were suppressed or were targeted by "Russian" domination should really learn history, because Ukrainians held some very important roles in the government. Not to mention, the speaker (Nikolai Podgorny
) continuously pronounces the letter "Г" in every word as "Heh" even though he is speaking Russian. This is because Ukrainians often forget to pronounce "Г" as Ghe, and instead they pronounce it in the Ukrainian way as "Heh"

USSR at its peak...before stagnation set in, before Afghan War but had developed most it would after WW2 before those problems set in...also US was just feeling full humiliation after Vietnam and would soon be in an economic dive themselves.

nice parade without comments, so music can be heard so clearly!

I really think the overcast weather creates a somber mood. Does anyone else wonder where the heck all those large signs are? I would love to own one!
