Nala developer here. Thank you for showcasing our program! I'm glad you find it useful.

Thank God. The disorganized feel of apt is a pet peave of mine and is one of the things that put me on other distros.

It's just like DNF on my Fedora install but with colour.

This looks exactly like Fedora's DNF layout, which is my favourite package manager layout out there and a big reason why I use Fedora. Nice to see Debian users have access to something similar since the layout of apt sucks by default.

Without looking at the source code I was able to identity it’s implemented in python with rich library. Really nice work by the devs.

I love how Linux with its terminal power still remembers we are humans. Nala seems very cool. I remember first time installing and searching packages through linux, it was like stepping into a world hidden behind my wardrobe. with magic lions, fairies, fauns and centaurs...

Part of the reason why I currently use Arch-based distros now myself is because of just how superior Pacman is to APT — so good to know that someone is at least trying to bring APT up to par with it.

Of course, no third-party solution can possibly mitigate the fact that Ubuntu and its derivatives lack the rolling release nature of Arch — so this alone isn’t enough to convince me to switch back.

Just to clarify, the name for the type of interface is a TUI or Textual User Interface. :^) Great video thanks for sharing.

Holy crap I never knew I needed this until today. Nala is NICE. I especially love being able to review history! Never will I forget something I've manually installed again!

Looks nice. Synaptic, Discover and Gnome Software are fine front ends too. Thae latter 2 you can add Flatpak and Snap support to.

What got me interested in Nala was Parallel Downloads

No thanks, I'm good. I don't get the problems with apt, works great for me. Might not have the latest and greatest and it doesn't give more information than you really need, but it does what it's supposed to. I'm not going to install some foreign package manager, even if it's just a graphical overlay on top of apt. Stability is the entire reason I run Debian to begin with and it won't stay stable if I do everything in my power to move away from the default systems.

APT is most popular package manager out there as debian and Ubuntu dominates the server space. It's a tool and it does it's job very well. Highly recommend.

That looks very useful. The show command, can't quite make out if it shows the text to launch that program from the command line.. Shall give this a try.

for example apt knows the reverse dependencies and reads them every time ( that's why it's so slow )
nala does not know reverse dependencies

nala does not support working with sources, virtual packages....

what you think about this?

It is like apt but without making non-linux user thinking you are hacking the network.

I see what you did there!. Apt is one of the reason's I don't use Ubuntu I will give it a go with this though. I just hope they stick with it.

is there something like this but for dnf? that fetch and multiple connection feature by default would be a total blessing
