In 2018, The American Psychological Association, the largest scientific and professional organization of psychologists in the United States, released its “Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men.” The document opens by claiming, “socialization for conforming to traditional masculinity”, defined in part as stoicism and competitiveness, “limit[s] males’ psychological development, constrain[s] their behavior, result[s] in gender role strain and gender role conflict, and negatively influence[s] mental health.” Sadly, advocating far-left views is nothing new for the American Psychological Association. The habit goes almost back to its founding.

Masculinity is a prison; the idea that toxic masculinity leads to emotional stunting has a basis in reality, and I’m sure that study you cite explains as to why. But for instance, the fact that within our culture it is often seen as odd or unacceptable for a man to showcase certain emotions and vulnerabilities leads to many boys who absolutely do not know how to express themselves, and so end up holding in and suppressing their emotions instead of letting them out in a healthy way. This can have very damaging affects on emotional development and is a major reason why feminism is important not just for women, but for men as well.
