I’ve won more than $50, 000 like 4 times now and just kept playing until it was all gone. It’s a really awful feeling not being able to stop, and constantly thinking about it.

Old people: "young people are addicted to their screens!"
Also old people:

I listened to this while getting ready for work. I’d say the most depressing thing was listening to people not care about family members dying, but the most depressing part was how often it apparently happens.

Stories like this are the reason I think we need low-stakes casinos where you don't play with real money and just win silly plastic prizes like at the two-penny arcades. Sort of like methadone for gambling addicts.

Gambling addiction is scary, I used to but I'm lucky I get off easily because I accidentally bet my entire paycheck once, it stressed me tf out once I found out. Double the paycheck was nice and all, but the possibility of losing entire paycheck traumatized me and made me quit for good. Been a decade since I quit.

I only went to a casino one I lost $60 in about 15 min and all I wanted to do was take out more money and keep playing. That was the moment I realized I could not go to casinos ever again

I worked at a casino for over 5 years as a cashier and I have had so many people upset at me because I stole all their money when they come up and turn in chips or tickets. The saddest story for me was a regular of ours and her husband would come in 2-3 times a week to have fun and play a certain set of slot machines that was always in front of the cage/cashier area. At some point we noticed they didn't show for a couple weeks and we thought it was strange but figured that they were probably on vacation. Fast forward 2 more weeks and the wife shows up and you can tell something was wrong. Come to find out, her husband died in a car accident and she was still devastated. It got to the point one night where she got so drunk she peed herself and passed out and fell out of her chair. She eventually got banned from the casino due to the amount of times she would just pee herself at her chair and crying. I don't know what happened to her ever since but I do hope she is okay.

There’s a movie called “Lost in America” and in it, the couple has cashed in everything and are traveling across America. Well, they stop in Vegas-“Just for the night.” and he wakes up in the middle of the night to find his wife gone from the room. He wonders downstairs to the casino and he can hear her yelling, “COME BACK BIG 9!!! COME BACK BIG 9!!” She had lost their entire nest egg. All $750, 000 of it.

Me and my wife went to the casino once just to look around on a road trip we were on. I hadn't intended to gamble but found my favorite slot machine so I chucked in $100 I didn't really wanna spend, played it down to 60 and was about to cut my losses when I won $50. I pulled it out and used the $10 profits to go get us ice cream lol.

I've heard that one thing many gambling addicts have in common is hitting a relatively large payout very early in their gambling "career". If you go to a casino and lose your bankroll in a couple hours, or play the lottery several times and never win anything, it loses its luster (for most people). But if you happen to win some big prize, even a few thousand dollars, it sets an expectation that you're "lucky" and you're more likely going to keep trying to win again.

The fact that they even are regulars at a casino is sad

I've worked in a casino for about 6 years myself; I've seen a lot of this stuff happen, and the crazier stuff I haven't seen still seems very plausible.

I had a regular for 3 or 4 years who won a multi million dollar settlement and he blew it all away on high stakes blackjack and now works for the casino at their gas station across the street. So sad cause he was genuinely the nicest guy ever.

Played in a casino once, it was a bit of fun. My number was called on roulette on my first spin but I didn't place the minimum bet apparently. Spent a bit on the slots and on a 15 cent bet made $40ish. I genuinely thought I broke the machine and didn't understand how I won. Lost most of it and gave the rest away to people on the slots and never went back. I make enough money to pay my bills and I'd never bet my rent on it. Looking around the place at the people there, I realized it's not a place for happy people.

I hear a husband and wife arguing, she says she is NOT too drunk to gamble! Husband says let’s just go up to the room. Wife says loudly “I am NOT drunk” turns around and walks directly into a solid wall and passes out.

It was cheap to live there.
She has had modest amount of money
She went to the casino everyday to play video poker
She received free lunch
It took her about 2 years, to loose about 250g ..after loosing all her money .she went to the casino for the free buffet. When she didnt play that day .the casino told her not to come back

Idk if someone already talked about this, but I had a friend who worked in a casino. While not a sad story, he did tell me that casino’s (at least in that area) would keep tabs on new and returning gamblers who come in. If it was their first time in, good, they would rig the games and give them a better chance of winning so they return, and when they do, they try to earn back as much of that lost money by making it harder to win.

I worked in a casino for a year. The part about not wanting to leave a machine to go to the bathroom happened with a particular quite a bit. She ended up getting banned. She wasn't the only one. As a customer, I witnessed a woman lose $800 that she needed for her wedding. A friend of mine felt bad and gave the woman $300 and told her to go home. The woman promptly gambled that away too.
