Drone footage reveals massive wildfires destroying parts of the forests of British Columbia in Canada.

Authorities are battling to contain the Shetland Creek wildfire and protect affected communities. A record number of wildfires in 2023 forced the evacuation of more than 235,000 people across the country and sent thick smoke into parts of the US, leading to hazy skies and health warnings in a number of cities.

Here's some interesting math. Currently, Canada has 64 water bombers. So far, Canada has given $5.5 billion to Ukraine. The cost of a water bomber is $37 million. Therefore, Canada could have purchased 148 additional water bombers with the money sent to Ukraine. With over 200 water bombers, Canada could end all forest fires within weeks. Another example of Canada last.

Our worst year we had a combined area burn loss that was around the same size of the UK if you removed Northern Ireland from the equation.

In the summer I often have to time my trips to the grocery store based on air quality.

We just came out of a record 8 days in a row with 30°C temperatures that reached as high as 36°C. Those temperatures were combined with horrible air quality from fire smoke, and it was brutal.

I’m in Edmonton, and currently we have fires north, west, and far south of us in BC, Northern Alberta and the Territories, and in Washington State, and Montana.

Outside of the main urban areas, there are very few people and vast areas full of forests and mountains. All of it is beautiful country. It is heartbreaking to watch areas of it burn.

After the last 20 years. I can’t even believe there’s any trees left in BC.

If you work in the forest industry, start planning your escape now.

Man, do we ever need better forestry management practices.

Not a single description of the location? Are these videos of a single fire at one location? An accompanying satellite map will make the video more informative

It’s a natural part of the B.C. forest system. We have always had fires, we always will.

Imagine we spent hundreds of millions on protecting our cities, parks, wildlife INSTEAD of giving money to foreign countries, paying illogical immigrants and what not. This was allowed to happen.

I was planning trip to jasper park and banff from sydney in a month's time till I came across this, it's so saddening to see the beauty of canada being like this, and the poor locals and animals, feels terrible seeing this! I guess I'll have to settle for toronto now.

Thats not a forest, it is a pine tree farm. We need the forest industry to replant the leaf growing hardwoods which dont burn hot and fast like this.

I think arsonists should be given capital punishment.
