A leviathan that sits at the peak of the Iceshard Cliff's ecosystem. It surrounds its massive form in cold temperatures via ridge-like cooling organs across its body; the frost its limbs produce doubles as a potent weapon and a way to travel along walls and floating rocks.

Recorded in game from Main Story Storm-cold Vortex - Slay the Jin Dahaad in Iceshard Cliffs. Jin Dahaad, Lord of Ice, Apex Predator of the Iceshard Cliffs Boss Theme. Monster Hunter Wilds OST.

Some ecological observations on Jin:
It appears that it’s control over ice comes from it being able to distribute heat through its large plates as they are always glowing after each ice attack. This is also why it glows like a furnace during its ultimate attack as it has to store that heat somewhere. Additionally this applies in gameplay too as once you break all other plates, the back plate has to handle all the heat and becomes soft and malleable enough to break. Once broken, Jin loses control of its ability to create ice.

The way they narrate it in the story where they act like it's the same Jin dahaad you fought on your way to Suja made this fight so much cooler to me

I love how as the fight goes on the music drifts closer and closer to proof of a hero, but never quite arriving at it.

Great musical storytelling for a showstopping boss

You'd think he'd be on the same level as the other apexes, but what sets Jin apart is it's unique, innate ability to alter the surrounding ecosystem. While Rey Dau, Uth Duna, and Nu Udra thrive during their preferred seasons, Jin Dahaad creates his own. This, coupled with his massive size, puts him on a different league.

The first time I heard it, it gave me a Studio Ghibli vibe + Dayvi Jones playing the organ in Pirates of the Caribbean, it caught me off guard, absolutely fantastic.

The reason why it's so enormous is definitely because of the reduced gravity in the Iceshard Cliffs. Jin probably used to be much smaller, but centuries of low G life ballooned it to a size that would make him collapse under his own weight in any other environment. With the increase in size came an increase in his area of influence and power over ice and eventually the Cliffs became Icesharded.

What I'm saying is, if we ever get a subspecies of Jin Dahaad it will definitely be smaller.

Could be the landscape and just some vague similarities with the synths, but Absolute Zero came to mind when this started playing. Which is a good thing.

This fight completely blew my expectations out of the water, it was fun, the music hit, the fight was unique, it felt super engaging, and it was a little scary. Easily my new favorite non elder dragon fight

When I first saw him I went "Okay, THAT'S an elder dragon, finally." then just seeing the word "leviathan" on the book had me going "No fucking way that's a leviathan." I just, HOW THE HELL WILL THE ELDER DRAGONS OF THIS PLACE BE when a leviathan can grow to THIS level of power?

First time fighting this dude using DB and getting a focus strike felt TRANSCENDENT the way you just shred down that whole spine

it's suprising that one of the apexes is so clearly more powerful than the others, but can't be denied this thing is definetly on part with elder dragons. the scale of his ice attacks give velkhana a run for his money

Hopefully he gets a whole new phase and a theme whenever the AT quest drops just like kulve (and please let him have a different armor design like the risens and not just bright recoloring)

The only reason Jin Dahaad isn't an Elder Dragon is because of anatomy, cause in everything else he absolutely is the monster closest to that status in the game. I even think Jin is actually a devolved Elder: his back grills are what's left of his wings after thousands of years living in the Iceshard Cliffs without flight.
