Division can be thought of as finding how many groups of the second number can be made from the first. So dividing (+6) ÷ (+3), is like counting how many groups of (+3) can be made from (+6). There are 2 groups, so (+6) ÷ (+3) = (+2). Dividing (-6) ÷ (-3) is like counting how many groups of (-3) can be made from (-6). There are 2 groups, so (-6) ÷ (-3) = (+2). We can use these results to find some related divisions. Since (+6) and (-6) are opposites, the number of groups of (+3) that can be made from (-6) is the opposite of the number of those groups that can be made from (+6). Similarly, the number of groups of (-3) that can be made from (+6) is the opposite of the number of those groups that can be made from (-6).
