Walk In Coolers And Off Cycle Defrost - Avoiding Freeze Ups

Walk in coolers only require what's referred to as "off cycle" defrost to get rid of the ice. Off cycle defrost uses the evaporator fans and the ambient air in the cooler to melt the ice, as it's above 32⁰F.

Good stuff man. Appreciate your content. I'm a HVAC engineer, your vids help me to "experience" the field side of things and stay versed on that part of the industry.

Also educating the customer can help. Will they listen and use that information. Thats anyone's guess. I have a site where they used to have frequent calls for an iced up evap. I knew it was from leaving the door open too long. I educated the head chef on why their problems were happening. She took it to heart and has made it a point to make sure whoever is going in the WIC/WIF to not leave the door open. I haven't been back for an iced up evap.
