Being a machine engineer, the ebay special is easier to service and to me seems a good option. I would use coolant designed for aluminium engines to prevent corrosion and pitting or at least distilled water and definitely keep filters clean to prevent getting mayo in your gun. If you fill a tank first, any oil water mixture will sit in the bottom and is less likely to get into your gun if it gets past your filters. For any noobs, compressors always generate water and so requires filtering out.

free hint from someone used to trying to make plastic pipes work. Cable tie round the kink forces it to become round again, a few in close proximity allows a bend without the pipe kinking itself half-shut.

2 years on my Ebay special and no issues. I change the oil every season and keep the filters clean. I have three gun cylinders I fill and and average about 3 fills a month. Always run water through these even for a top off as they will build temp way too fast. I did wrap my stainless air tubes with copper wire for additional heat dispersion and that help cool them off a bit. Also leave the water pump running after shutting down the unit as they don't bleed heat well and leaving the water running for an additional 5 or 10 minutes will help dissipate extra heat

I have the Air Venturi compressor. After two years of use, I found it would only charge up to 1, 000 psi. After doing some internet searches and conversations with Pyramyd Air, I discovered that the stainless steel reed valve on the second stage had burned a pin-hole through it. This was caused by carbon building up on the reed valve, and the over-heated carbon burning a hole through the reed valve. Bottom line, I should have used a better quality oil designed specifically for high pressure compressors. I was able to replace the reed valve myself. Pyramyd Air had the correct reed valve in stock. I noticed a small amount of corrosion on the cooling system internals, even though I had been using distilled water. Now I am using a radiator coolant and distilled water mix. I am also using a better quality oil. My Air Venturi is working fine now. Overall, I am satisfied with my Air Venturi compressor. I should have started out with better oil, and used radiator coolant.

this week(19/11/21) I bought an Ejoyous High Pressure Air Pump Electric High Pressure Air Compressor Pump 4500PSI / 30MPA, 300BAR High Pressure Air Pump, Portable PCP Air Compressor off Amazon uk, for £133 quid...its basically the same as the "ebay special"...

it requires 2 LR44 watch batteries to power the temp gauge, and i ordered No 46 hydraulic oil but will use synthetic iso 100 compressor oil in the future after reading the comments here...

the temp sensor is supposed to be placed in a hole at the back of the cooling cylinder...
i found my water hoses were also kinked and will have to put them in a bowl of hot waters to get them right again...

i worked out that if it manages 26 bottle fills it will have paid for its self!

great video Andy i feel better with my purchase after watching this!

I know this video is a year old by the time I’ve seen it but still very knowledgeable for a novice ( Beginner) like me. I am now going into a year with my PCP world and I tell you this to all of you beginners you can by any PCP air Gun or Rifle but what you don’t realize when you start you need, no you WANT a reliable compressor! And looking around I want one that can be used regularly and weekly, monthly into years to come! Just don’t want to carry around a bucket of water. Thanks for the information you posted very knowledgeable 🙂

After months of handpumping, I got myself the Chinese compressor!!!! What luxury! My first impression was why did I buy this again? 'cause it took just minutes to fill my smallest gun tank. But I still remember the pain staking Hatsan tank that took a split time filling it up because of the large capacity and I was careful with my new compressor, it got hot. maybe it had to run the engine in a bit. It's working fine now.

Yong Heng ebay special... over 3 years so far only one issue.. Had to replace the power relay under the cover... About your temp gauge.. look at the front of ther handle and back of the cylinder there is a place to put the end of the sensor for accurate temp reading.. These pumps are awesome/... Mine fills my Marauder in less than a minute!..from 2000 to 3000 PSI..Paid 303.00 for mine in Feb of 2017. Love it!!

I payed a little more and got me a Yong heng, basically the same as an "Ebay-special" but better water hoses and some other improvements like an owners manual in english that tell you that the probe for the temperature gauge should be inserted in the hole on the cylinder. 😊 I did not follow the recommendations to use iso 46 aw hydraulic oil but used a high quality synthetic iso 100 compressor oil which can withstand the temperatures reached in the second stage of compressing to avoid carbon build-up on the second stage piston.

Im a brit living in the states, bought a Yong Heng 4500 psi compressor (ebay special) about 2 years ago, runs like a charm, herd that bearings wear on piston crank, rebuild piston+kit cost around $26, ive fitted a water, molecular filter, fills my FX Streamline. 22 in under 2 minutes, my temp gauge batteries died last year, so need replacing.
Overall good value, if it lasts 3 to 4 years can just buy another.

I ran a yong Heng for well over a year. They require constant attention and have a very dirty output suggesting multiple air filters after compression which I did. You can never run them without circulating cold water. There is also a very explicit start stop procedure. I had well over 30 hours use and it needed a high-pressure piston head. After that replacement it is again running just fine with constant attention.

What you don’t have here is probably the most intelligent compressor. The Omega series. I have the basic one and already well over 10 hours on it which again is quite a lot of air for a single person. The only maintenance is an occasional bit of grease. Truly exceptional and also the quietest with virtually no maintenance. It did not even come with air filter so I put A good one on it.

Very informative review. My interest was the eBay Special, which is being sold in the US by a number of vendors. None of them offer any warranty, but the pump has the cooling feature which is well thought-out and uses that inexpensive aquarium pump. It has been favorably mentioned in forum posts and I believe it’s the one I will buy. Recently the piece of junk I bought via Alibaba failed. It had issues upon arrival and I doubt I put 10 hours on it. It very much resembles another Yong Heng being sold on Amazon for $269. This pump also appears under major brand names, but I won’t be fooled again.

I think you undersold the ebay special, you could according to the aforementioned retailer purchase the compressor and a tank for less than the cost of any of the other units mentioned.
Enjoyed the review.

The temperature gauge on the Ebay special runs off a rechargeable battery which charges after a short running time. No biggy. I've had mine a year now. I paid £135 delivered and I am delighted with it. If has been 100% trouble free. It does NOT need two plugs as water pump takes its power from the compressor and mine was a UK plug. The plastic pipes aren't plastic but soft none kink silicone and setting up is a doddle. Plug it in and fill a water container ....that's it. Mine is permanently set up anyway in my garden workshop and it's amazing just how many shooting friends who now call in 'as they were passing' and seem to carry their air bottles in their car boot. I can testify as to how fast it is. Mine takes about 7 minutes to fill my 7 litre 300 bar bottle from 180 bar which is superb.
Edit - I found it began to run a bit hot after about 15 minutes so I decided to run the cooling water open circuit rather than reuse it. I run the hot water to waste and keep my cold supply topped up from my garden hose. It runs some 20°C cooler which means less stress and less wear.

Now i now why i am not a fan of PCP rifles, the hassle and expensive of filling them unless you live close to a gunshop
is just not worth it for me.
I don't use my airguns often enough to justify the expense of the gear required to fill them at home.
Thanks for making us aware of the pro's and cons of available compressors.
