TV Antenna Band Separator (VHF UHF Mixer)

I bought this old-school band separator long ago.

Band separator was popular during the analog days because using a VHF antenna to receive UHF signals may cause ghosting. Band separator solves this problem by using two different dedicated antennas for VHF & UHF. In Europe, after the analog shut down, all DTVs are in UHF which makes band separators obsolete. Even in the US where both VHF & UHF bands are still used in DTV, many antennas can receive both VHF and UHF with good results which makes band separator less important unless you are in a location where VHF transmitters are in a different location than UHF and each receiving antennas must face in a different direction then band separation still helps even on DTV.

Shouldn't this have been called a "combined"? The use is to combine signals, not separate them.
