Agreed but with typescript! It teaches you a lot about the libraries you will need to use and saves you a lot of headaches when the docs are not sufficient so you have to read the inline docs and types of the methods you want to use. Not to mention, type-safety and auto-completion. It's just all around a must to learn with js.

I totally agree! It actually depends on what you want to build, For example I want build websites so I have to learn JavaScript.
HTML and CSS are considered markup languages rather than programming languages.

Agreed only on the last statement on the motivation part.

tbh for DS and algos you could learn them without even knowing a programming language, in fact languages just get in the way when learning algos, they're just problem solving techniques at the end of the day

I think it really depends on the kind of person you are. If you need the dopamine hit, sure, JavaScript should be your first language. If you are in for the long term, want a solid foundation and you can delay gratification, I would say Java is the best option. It gives access to the majority of complex subject in programming and eliminates the really hard that can actually demotivate you enough to stop (like pointers and memory allocation).

JS is great because it gives you the ability to use the skills u learned into a project that u actually care about

I beg to differ! Learn C and then move to any languages, it’ll be easier. Say you start with JS, you’d find it difficult to grasp some concepts

Your first programming language is so far from being important. Pick any.

Is there a way to get down to the very basics I tried using different programs to try and learn anything I can about jake script but it was way to advance I don’t know many terms for things. The only progress I’ve made is learning html and css using chatgpt to break it down in very basic English.

I don't think there's an objective best starting place, there seem to be pros and cons to different languages as a first. Just go with what feels right for your goals are. I personally strive to hate myself as much as possible on a daily basis, so my first language has been brainfuck. (totally kidding btw, I'm a js junkie atm)

I would suggest to learn typescript instead of JavaScript

I taught a friend of mine c# and he was able to build a crypto coin tracker website with blazor and used the same code base to turn into an app.. you need to update your information.

even I prefer JS as the first programming language cuz I don't have to install anything, os built in support plus cross platform

Controversial? I would say it's what 90% of people would recommend (along with python). But in my opinion you should learn C# or Java if you insist.
