Robinson's Podcast #233 - Judith Butler: Trump & Harris | Israel & Palestine | Sex & Gender

Judith Butler is Distinguished Professor in the Graduate School and formerly the Maxine Elliot Chair in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Program of Critical Theory at the University of California, Berkeley. In this episode, Robinson and Judith discuss three broad topics. First, they talk about Judith’s latest book, Who’s Afraid of Gender? (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2024). In particular, they touch on the dynamics of sex and gender, as well as their political dimensions. Second, the conversation turns to the 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Finally, they broach the topic of Israel and Palestine, with particular attention to the questions of genocide and anti-semitism.

Robinson Erhardt researches symbolic logic and the foundations of mathematics at Stanford University.

A "sense of exhilaration" like a five year old child expecting ice-cream. Yeah, that sums up the depth of the character and understanding in the United States of Hypocrisy.

This is the most candid, common sense and worthwhile theory I’ve heard

"The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'."

The thought of being surrounded by these types of people disgusts me.

She nailed it. That is what these define as freedom of speech. Their "right" to openly hate

Never thought of it that way.
Very smart woman.

They know but it empowers them in some odd way. “Free to hate” is exactly what they want.

She's spot on, people get a thrill out of being uncensored with all the crap going on in their minds.

Best explanation I have listened to.. They always say back "I am allowed to speak my mind.. no matter how hateful. So accurate. Thank-You.

I also think they do it out of an unfounded sense of desperation that their supremacy is being threatened.

Oh. So people like the thrill of the rallies and the freedom to hate. Gotcha. Just like Nuremberg circa 1933.
