I must also mention - the Russians were planning on equipping the Mistrals with upgraded Ka-52Ks, which were navalized versions. But they didn't end up completing those before the contract was cancelled, so they just gave regular Ka-52s to Egypt instead.

This story also ties into the Ukraine story because if Russia had gotten these ships, they would have right now a much better amphibious assault capability with which to threaten Odessa and Moldova. Thank goodness France made the right decision to NOT let them go to Russia.

I follow a number of YouTubers who report on the Ukraine war and I’ve often wondered what they’ll be doing after the war. You’ve just shown me that you have a lot of interesting things to say, even after the war inevitably ends!

One detail about the Mistral class: it's a floating swiss army knife (can take helicopters, vehicles, boats, can be transformed as an hospital, ...) 🙂 BUT it's built with civilian standards, not mil standards. It means it's not designed to be part of the first wave but to exist within an armada and only once the coast/port is secured it can start to work. That's why there is little armament on board, its security is provided by the other ships & submarines.
Another detail: the order was canceled when Russia attacked Georgia. All of sudden Central & Nordic Europe understood what could happen with these ships... France canceled the order (huge political clash at that time) and sold them back to Egypt. But with a net loss of several hundred millions of euros 😵 (Egypt did a good deal that day). The concerned countries were supposed to compensate this loss by purchasing military equipment from France. But strangely they forgot to complete that part of the deal. It's a lesson learnt...

Imagine those helicarriers in Russia hands. In the Black Sea. At the bottom of the Black Sea.

And you almost never see them using the Ka-52 in recent months, which shows how bad their ready rate must be. People talk about the tank being dead, but it’s actually helicopters that are dead when facing near peers with modern MANPADS. The new helicopters the USAF are introducing though will be sooo much faster and fuel efficient, which will be great for transport and medivac, but still way too vulnerable to attack defended positions without long range stand off capability.

As a Frontline volunteer in Donbas, i want to thank you so much for your videos that actually help us, i work alot in Vuhledar and massively appreciate all the videos you post in that area.

I want to ask you if could make a video or just mention us volunteers who do the work that big organizations just don't do. Nobody talks about us and most of us are independent, so we are big time underfunded.

In return i would mention you in my YouTube and Instagram posts and im sure others would too.

Thanks for reading this if you do, keep up that amazing work!

Considering how the Ka-52's seem to be rather readily downed when facing the correct firepower, one would imagine the Egyptians are having a closer look at what can be done to fix gaps in their defences.

All of your vids are packed with super useful info and insights - and especially so when like this one, it comments on anything to do with russia's depleting military arsenal! Good good :)

The terminology kind of got me wondering here so I looked it up and it seems that the term helicarrier most often refers to the flying carrier made up by Marvel. These things are usually spelled out as helicopter carriers.

I wonder if the hotline between Cairo and Moscow is busy with deals regarding Ka 52s going back to Russia. I imagine the Egyptians could name their own price.

Anything which disadvantages Ruzzia is a Good Thing.
Scuppering some of Ruzzia's amphibious assault capabilities was a Very Good Thing.

Boats like that very expensive to build and maintain. You need a lot of trained personnel and replacement crews to rotate. They need a large support fleet to protect and resupply with food and fuel.
