In this video, Dr. Dan defines prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and the process by which tissue is obtained and processed in order to test for various routine biomarkers for gastroesophageal cancers. Low throughput tests including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) as well as high throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) of DNA on oncopanels are discussed. Routine biomarkers tested in the newly diagnosed stage IV setting are detailed, including HER2, PDL1, MMR, and soon to be Claudin 18.2, as well as various others that are included in NGS panels (including EGFR, MET, FGFR2, BRCA1/2, CDH1, MSI, TMB, and others).
