I worked as a farm hand. There’s farms in every state that need help with harvest in the fall and planting in the spring. They typically let you live on site, have showers and a community house for meals, dishes and hanging out with new farm friends. It gave me the money I needed to live at the beach or travel during summer and snowboard during winter.

My husband is a traveling welder, it takes us all over the country (and world if we wanted to go that route)!! He takes time off in between jobs and we travel around in our van! We’ve been doing this for 6 years and with each year it gets easier and easier to find work/take time off!!

I've heard a lot of nomads also work in the Midwest during harvesting season. Apparently those big commercial farms hire seasonal workers to help pick all the produce

Any job that you can work remotely, you can do as a nomad. My late husband & I did it for 3.5 years. He used his background as a former Network Systems Engineer and trained organizations (mostly military) in security software. He figured out the wifi equipment (this was before Starlink launched). I planned our routes & found locations where cell towers were on/near public lands that allowed free (usually 14 day) stays. When he needed to travel to a client, we found a place w/in 1.5 hours of an airport.

It is definitely doable, it just takes a lot of research.

Travel nursing is such a smart way to live the van life. They made such good money and have short contracts so yes, they work hard, but they luckily can get a good chunk of time off in between contracts.

I appreciate this. Not everyone can be a van life “influencer” or it’d be even more over saturated, ya know. ? And I love van life content but often wondered what other work can be done while traveling. I think the pandemic helped a lot with online jobs/ “working from home”. I also really want to try this lifestyle in a few years when my last kid graduates high school. I’ve been A single parent with my kids totally doing it alone and I have had to pay the ever growing rent for the last 20 yrs and I’m soooo sick of moving everything every couple years to the next rental. I’d give anything to own something outright n not pay half or more of my paycheck In rent! Even if it’s a van. It’ll be mine.
