For those who don’t know..

The T-80 is a Soviet-era main battle tank (MBT) developed in the 1970s and first fielded by the Soviet Army in 1976. It was one of the first tanks to incorporate a gas turbine engine, providing greater mobility and faster acceleration compared to diesel-powered tanks, though at the cost of higher fuel consumption.

Key Features:
• Armor: Composite armor with some variants featuring explosive reactive armor (ERA) for enhanced protection.
• Armament: A 125mm smoothbore gun capable of firing a variety of shells and guided missiles, supported by a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and a roof-mounted 12.7mm machine gun.
• Engine: Initially equipped with a GTD-1000 gas turbine engine, later models, such as the T-80U, upgraded to more powerful engines.
• Speed and Mobility: High top speed of around 70 km/h (43 mph) on roads, with impressive off-road capabilities.
• Crew: 3 personnel (commander, gunner, and driver), with an autoloading system that eliminates the need for a fourth crew member.

Variants:

The T-80 has several variants, including the T-80U (improved armor and fire control system), T-80UK (command version), and the more modern T-80BVM, featuring advanced protection systems and fire control improvements.

Operational History:

The T-80 has seen use in several conflicts, including the First and Second Chechen Wars and more recently in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Despite its high performance, it was gradually supplemented and partially replaced by the more cost-effective T-72 and T-90 tanks.

Due to its high fuel consumption and maintenance challenges, the T-80 was less widely produced than other Soviet tanks but remains in service in Russia and several other countries.

For those who don't know:

The radius of destruction caused by a nuclear bomb depends on its explosive yield, typically measured in kilotons (kt) or megatons (Mt) of TNT equivalent. Here are the main effects of a nuclear explosion and how they relate to the bomb's radius of impact:

Fireball:
At the center of the explosion, a fireball forms, reaching millions of degrees in temperature.
For a 15-kt bomb (like the one dropped on Hiroshima), the fireball has a radius of about 200–300 meters (650–1, 000 feet).

Blast Wave:
The shockwave from the explosion causes most of the structural damage.

Overpressure effects:
5 psi (pounds per square inch): Most residential buildings collapse. This radius is about 1.5–2 km (1–1.2 miles) for a 15-kt bomb.

Thermal Radiation:
The heat from the explosion can cause severe burns.

Third-degree burns:
Affect skin and ignite flammable materials. This can occur up to 3–4 km (2–2.5 miles) for a 15-kt bomb.
Larger bombs have much greater thermal effects, with burns possible at tens of kilometers

Radiation:
Initial radiation from the explosion and lingering radioactive fallout cause harm to living beings and the environment.

Lethal radiation dose:
Can extend to about 1–2 km (0.6–1.2 miles) from the blast center for a 15-kt bomb. Fallout can spread over hundreds of kilometers, depending on wind and weather conditions.

Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP):
High-altitude detonations produce EMPs that can disable electronic devices and infrastructure over hundreds of kilometers.
Larger Bombs
Modern nuclear weapons can have much larger yields, significantly increasing the radius of destruction. For example, the Tsar Bomba (50 Mt), the largest bomb ever detonated, had a fireball radius of about 4.6 km (2.8 miles) and a blast radius of 35 km (22 miles) for severe damage.

Height of detonation:
Airbursts cause wider blast and thermal effects, while ground bursts produce more fallout.

Geography:
Urban areas with dense buildings can shield some areas from the blast.
