I think the reason a lot of people think these pedals don’t sound good is because their first experience playing one was through a crappy solid state practice amp and cheap guitar. When used with a great tube amp and guitar they sound awesome.

Plays well with orange amps as well due to the flat eq. No mid bump like in a ts circuit. Great pedal.

If your OD-3 lacks a bit of top-end change the R11 resistor for a higher value. Stock is 4.7k so I settled for 8.2k but you can put a 5k pot in series and call it Presence.

I've never done a Boss Overdrive. But I have a Boss Super Overdrive, and it's awesome!

I had one but it wasn't enough distortion for me when I started playing into more Spillknot tones. It's great for well-rounded distortion though, no question about that.

It sounds like static being added, not an over-driven Pre-Amp. Most pedals, even the TS808 and TS9 add some alarm clock radio very annoying Mid Hump Tones that are not pleasing when an SM57 microphone is used for tracking. I have a ton of overdrive pedals and have spent hours of tweak time to dial in something that sounds organic and authentic, but it’s very difficult to get little boxes to not sound like little boxes when recording. I have a 73’ Fender Twin Reverb and a custom HIWATT 100 DR103 and it’s still very difficult to find a good Sparkle of overdrive out of a common highly manufactured pedal, Even using a Gibson LP Standard, an SG Standard, an American Telecaster or Stratocaster. The microphone really picks up more than just the sound you hear when sitting by an amp, it’s much more transparent… the static is not a good thing IMO
