I prefer silent ones, like the newest Shimano freehubs, but here you have the comparison of different hubs sounds. We can definitely hear the difference between pawls and ratchet system. Which one is for you?

the issue with these sound checks is at the beginning the cranks are spinned with 240+ rpm and you get the sound of the hub with bike "mowing" 100+ km/h which is fun but unrealistic. So you get the real sound after 5-6 seconds of wheel spinning. But you get the impression that the initial sound is the one ))

I want to leave you a compliment now. Your channel is definitely one of the best when it comes to bikes. I do not watch every video of yours, there are schin things that do not interest me at all, but:
I can still learn something from almost every video I see from you, even though I've been building bikes myself for over twenty years. I like your calm unagitated way of explaining things, without much babble, without arrogance, but with a lot of background knowledge, often even with real trivia.
And above all: without annoying music and short cuts. Thank you very much!

I love those more silent hubs, DT swiss 350, Shimano mt400 and mostly that shimano LX classic. ❤️

I prefer silent hubs. Noisy, loud hubs are maybe fun when watching a pro rider going downhill or something. Riding in the forest full of birds with noisy hub is a pure nonsense.

THANK YOU!! Your video has been a tremendous help. I finally upgraded to a decent bike and after setting everything up the bike sounded different when I spun back the pedals to the cheapo bikes I've ridden all my life. You have saved me so much headache and worry. Thanks again!

I believe the purpose of hub noise is to warn people on trail to move out of way... I do it, cause it's very effective without bell.

I somehow really like the Shimano MT400 just because it’s so silent

I have a 2-year-old mt400 hub and it has gotten louder as the grease has worn in.

I'm glad my free hub sounds nothing like that! I couldn't think of anything worse!

Prefer quiet 100%. Have older Ringle hubs on Yo Eddy 94 and SO loud.

I remember when I first started and had the mt500 shimano hubs (Ithink)very quiet ... then I built wtb i25 on hope pro 2 EVOs (newest at time) and my first ride shocked me as I thought the hub was grinding. Took a ride to get used to. But when I never had to worry about hikers, or bikes coming opposite way around fast blind turns made me ride much faster. Plus I hear that would scare bears away, although not an issue for me lol

Dt Swiss is nice, but Mavic Crossmax with the 360 Instant Drive Hub sounds nicer
