if the star is a million years light years away from us, it means, it takes million years for the light from it to get to the earth!, it also means it take million years for us to see it is destroyed if it happens today

so there is good chance that we find the planet exactly like earth, but by the time we get to it it might have been destroyed million years ago?!

Cosmic Rays are emitted from every luminous body there is (or was lol) and actually create a very thin atmosphere in what is thought of as "the vacuum of outer space". The friction of our sun's passing through this atmosphere heats it's Corona to millions of degrees hotter than it's surface in precisely the same way the space shuttle heats up upon re-entering Earth's atmosphere.

It also heats the Earth's thermosphere to thousands of degrees hotter than the subfreezing atmosphere just below it.

Did I mention that they are incredibly energetic, heavy charged particles? So energetic in fact that they produce an average of 8.6 million lightning strikes per day, each strike producing 100 million to a billion Volts. There's more...

What electrical energy (from the Charged Particles) that's not converted into heat energy (lightning) is conserved in the Earth's magnetic field and this energy flows through the Earth's iron core much the same way that electricity flows through an incandescent bulb. This is the energy used to melt the Earth's core. There's A LOT MORE lol...

Remember that this energy is the product of Earth's atmosphere interacting with these highly energetic charged particles and heat causes gases to expand... I mean, the more interacting the more heat the more interacting ad infinitum. It gets worse...

There are massive methane belching sinkholes appearing all over the Earth and the permafrost is melting, producing much more methane. It gets MUCH WORSE...

As I mentioned before - the energy contained in the Earth's magnetic field is Conserved Energy. The Earth is much like a tiny capacitor the same way the sun (remember that it's storing up energy from cosmic rays as well) a MASSIVE capacitor so what might happen when the Earth's Magnetic Pole actually flips?
