What is a mirage?

What is a mirage? How is it formed? What are the inferior and superior mirages? What is Fata Morgana? In order to answer these questions, we need to understand some basic optics principles; refractive index, critical angles, total internal refraction...All answers and details are in the video.

- Vacuum wavelength: 550 nm
- Atmospheric pressure: 101.325 kilopascals [kPa]
- 50 relative humidity, percent

0:50–except there is no other medium above the surface for a mirage. It’s absurd to invoke Snells law when the medium is uniform. In other word, with a mirage light isn’t passing through an OTHER medium.

1:06–all irrelevant.

1:19–bald assertion. Evidence please.

1:42– absurdly irrelevant. This is not where a mirage occurs.

3:20–all of this is horrible science. Assertion with no substantiation. Superior mirages are misclassified inferior mirages. See my video from 10/31/22 for an explanation.
