His view is simply logical positivism - not exactly the strongest epistemology to put your faith in. I wonder if I should believe him based on his authority.

Excellent, but you can't avoid 'soulcraft' if the soul doesn't exist. We are what we do, eat, learn and were born with. Being free to express our preferences to the maximum in deference to certain principles is great, but then we can't be equivocal about those principles.
