Dumpster Diving Copper For My First Copper Smelting At Home

Went and bought myself an electric furnace last last week and it arrived late Saturday night! Did a little melt yesterday and it worked pretty good (other than the lid kind of breaking).

Gotta say - there is something magical about melting copper at home and seeing the glowing liquid pour out of the crucible and into the mold.

I'm stoked to get some custom coin molds and do those next!

I was originally inspired to do this by @bigstackD and am amazed at the treasure hoard he has amassed!

Matey you need to hit me up for a devil forge discount link as even the 4 kg devil forge will melt a kilo of copper in 10 or 11 minutes 👊🏻😁
And definitely get yourself a firebrick to put your graphite mold on as you can blow a hole in the concrete by doing it the way you are as any moisture in the concrete can turn to steam and explode taking a big chunk of concrete out of your floor👍🏻

Really nice bars I haven't used an electric one I have the propane one
I do have a suggestion get a brick to set crucible on the heat will make the cement pop sometimes. The cracking happened on mine but not near as bad as yours hopefully they will replace the part or the whole unit. One question will your yard take ingots some don't have a way to test the ingots purity.

I don't understand the purpose of melting and pouring bars of copper. We just take the bulk of copper to the scrap yard, they weigh it and then pay us. I think it looks a little suspicious. I realize you live in Salt Lake City but there are still people who steal copper and they try to hide the fact that the copper is stolen hence melting it down and putting it in bars. If I am wrong then I do apologize.

Some knuckleheads ruined smelted bars for everyone out here. My scrapyards will not take home smelts.
