White mexicans get all the good roles in mexican media and that's a fact . There is a huge problem with colorism in Mexico

The conquistadors set up a racial hierarchy according to the level of mixing of white Spaniards and natives. That racism stills prevails even after generations.

I am originally from Mexico and I can say truthfully that Mexican media is very racist, I only see white Mexicans on tv getting all the protagonist roles. When yalitzia was nominated for her oscar, many Mexican actors were so angry about it and other even made group chats to demand Mexican film makers not to hire her. But like my mom said, the best form of revenge is success, while those nasty actors don’t leave their low budge novelas, yalitzia is living the high life sitting next to Anna win tour in fashion shows, going to parties with Hollywood’s best names and just enjoying her success while the ones who disliked her for simply being indigenous, are rotting in their envy

Mexicans say they are proud of their culture then turn around and discriminate the indigenous people who made that culture to begin with. Aztecs, Mayans etc

Mexico is very hypocrite because we tell the world that we're proud of our ancestors the Aztecs the Mayans and many other great civilizations with Incredible knowledge about mathematics, engineering, architecture astrology, art, agriculture and religion. Yet inside Mexico is what we discriminate the most. We offered the world to share this cultures but at the same time we wish none of these native civilizations could interact with the rest of us the mestizos and white people that come from other countries especially Europe. They come from other countries and they called themselves Mexicans but they despite the native people. Mexico is a nahualt Word most of the names of the States cities towns are native words, the flag has a Aztec symbol. All the native population in Mexico deserves more respect. all of their knowledge was taken away and now we dislike them because they don't have the knowledge that we appreciate today which is the knowledge of how to make more money, even though they give identity to the present Mexico with their food their Customs culture their dances their past. I love Mexico let's try to make it a better place for all of us.

I like Yalitza. She is an authentic indigenous girl from Oaxaca and she has a pretty smile. I like her without European makeup. She looks more pretty natural. Congratulations to her! The poor girls should be overwhelmed of all the cameras, magazines, paparazzi and journalists harassing her.

I feel for my indigenous Mexican brothers and sisters, I may have been born in the US but I have the same blood flowing through my veins and I was so glad to see her get the recognition she deserved.

Yasss!!! I look like her and I have never seen someone on tv represent someone like me. The majority of Mexicans are not white euro featured people! Love seeing brown

Yeah, that’s why I was never a fan of Mexican Telenovelas, every single actor was white and the darkest they’ll ever cast is a light skinned mestiza as a maid, or a peasant. I prefer Colombian novelas, they are more diverse.

Mexican media is controlled by 2 classist media companpanies called Televisa and TV Azteca, if you ever watch a Mexican novela (soap opera) they mostly show case light skinned actos in the main roles and the mestizo in the non important roles, usually as servants of some sort..

I am so happy she won, many latin american people need to open their eyes and stop hating their indigenous members.

This happens through most parts of The Americas in general where Amerindians of pure blood or near it are often treated the bottom of the basket and barrel of the racial hierarchy
