Is Vizag drowning in plastic waste? How to make a difference....

We are all blessed with the power of our own choices. So, what we choose to do every time we visit our beautiful beach in Visakhapatnam, is to take some garbage bags and some gloves, and spend a little time picking up a little of the waste, others have left there.

We don’t wait for some big organized Swatch Bharat programme, we just add this simple activity into our daily routines. On this Sunday-afternoon-family stroll, we collected more than a dozen bags of plastic waste in less than 20 minutes from just a hundred metres or so of beach.

Join us...why not try this yourself? Try to do 4 simple things:

1) Never allow yourself to drop your waste into a drain or the street – always find a dustbin to put it in
2) Keep a couple of biodegradable garbage bags and some gloves with you at all times and when you notice waste, simply pick it up and find a dust bin to put it in.
3) Encourage others to do the same. Whenever you see someone drop their waste, ask them gently and respectfully, to pick it up and put in a dustbin.
4) Every time you buy something, use your own shopping bag and ask the vendor to NOT use plastic packaging and bags.

If we can all follow these four simple steps, in very little time - our beautiful beach and our beautiful city - will become a shining example of cleanliness, environmental health… and the power of people taking charge of healing their damaged environment.
